In an effort to eating healthy, I’ve recently taken up to eating dried fruits and nuts whenever I get that junk food craving. At first I was really hesitant, but some things are really really good!
My favorite nuts at the moment have got to be raw almonds and walnuts, and the oriental nut mix is awesome!
Dates, turkish apricots, and dried figs are amazingly delicious as well… i’ve been wanting to try the pineapple and peaches… before I try those Im curious to know which ones others have tried and would recommend. Are there any that I should avoid?
Re: Dry fruits and nuts
Nuts are great! But you've to be careful about dried fruits some contain more sugar and calories than fresh fruits. It's not always added sugar so check the labels before buying. And eat smaller portions of dried fruit than fresh fruit. For instance one cup of grapes contain 60 calories but one cup of raisins contain over 400 calories 'cos one cup can hold more dried fruit than fresh.
Cashew and pistachio are my favorite nuts. Almonds are the healthiest nuts out there.
In dried fruits I like raisins. dates, figs and apricots. I don't like peaches and pineapples though.
Re: Dry fruits and nuts
I like dried banana chips, pineapple, mango, apricots, figs and raisins.
Like Digital said, be careful. Most dried fruit does have more sugar than fresh fruit and it may not always be the healthiest option, although it may appear so.
You know when I feel like a junkfood craving/snack craving, I make some popcorn. Plain with no additions (I guess you can add some moderate flavouring if you so wish like paprika or a little melted caramel). Popcorn is so low in calories.
