Can anyone recommend a good sat nav for driving in Dubai - with an update facility every time the road layouts change.
Also, what signs do you follow to get back onto the Emirates Road lets say for example from Deira? We were totally lost yesterday and ended up in Sharjah trying to find our way back onto the emirates road towards RAK.
Deira and Bur Dubai really are very confusing. And so are some of the entry and exit points on Emirates Road. I once took a 30 km detour because of one wrong exit!!!!!
I didn't have any navigation system back in Dubai, but over here I'm using Garmin which is quite good. I'm pretty sure they must have UAE maps too.
I wouldn't know about a Sat Nav. Never needed one. Also, RAK is after Sharjah, so you were probably on the right track. Jus keep going on Emirates Road.

Yeah but I think he ended up in Downtown Sharjah while trying to find a away from Deira to Emirates Road. So he still had to go towards Emirates Road from there.
That is correct Umer. We ended up in downtown sharjah and there were no signs to emirates road nor. RAK. We stopped and asked at the fuel station for direction.
When we left Deira, there were no signs that we could follow towards Sharjah. We ended up driving past the creek and gold souk (bur dubai) and then onto a road that led us towards sharjah. We were stuck on the road for about an hour and then further hour driving round and round sharjah.
I think we will just park at mirdiff city centre mall and get a cab to the places until we familiarise ourselves with the roads and routes.
Thankfully our little girl was asleep for half of the time we were lost.
They really need to get some clear signs up to the main ring roads atleast.
