Can playing video games improve your performance in a real car? Can you share such games please?

In some driving schools, they have a simulator like video game where you drive a car, and then use those skills in real life.

Lilly all the driving games i have ever played are extremely unrealistic - except for Gran Turismo. This game is so, so annoyingly realistic!

And as i was posting this i remembered of an article i had read some time ago. A video gamer played Gran Turismo so much he became a professional race car driver!

I think simulation games can augment time spent in a real car, allowing you to fine tune your technique or memorize turns (like in the video cheegum shared) without the fear the fear of crashing into something. However there is no alternative to time spent in a real car. Even if I knew how to work all the controls, it would take me some time to settle into this E92. The car probably feels nothing I've ever driven, stiff suspension, instant power delivery and neck breaking speeds. I'd need a couple (or more) laps around the circuit, before I even begin to push this M3 close to it's limits on this track.

Sim is valuable for circuit memorization though. F1 drivers use simulation to practice on race circuits even before they get to them. This also means less wear on the actual car, as those things cost a fortune and there are limits to how many engines they can swap out in one racing season. But these drivers aren't normal people, they race cars for a living and many of them started driving when they were still in kindergarten.

I have alwaaaaaaays loved Need for Speed (almost all versions) I, II & III… There are 5 versions though… dont remeber if played them or not but oh! Im so in love with NFS!!

Driving is not for me, be it in games or in real life. I am an unbelievably mediocre driver at all levels. :(

There are more than five versions. There are more than ten, I don’t remember the exact number though.
