Is it safe for pregnant women to drive ? like say two hours daily to go to work and come back home… ?
Re: Driving and pregnancy ..
Are you trying to tell us something CB?! ![]()
I was driving up until a couple of days before i gave birth. Even long distance up and down the motorway! I just made sure i stopped at service stations to refuel (myself…with food!) and stretch my legs…as long as you feel comfortable whilst driving, i don’t see why you can get in a car and drive right up until the end of your pregnancy.
Pregnancy is not an illness, so unless you have a special condition which permits you from driving, i don’t see why you can’t lead a normal life. I know what you’re probably thinking; there is the risk of having an driving accident whilst being pregnant… BUT, there will always be this risk, regardless of whether you’re pregnant or not, so this is really a personal choice…
I saw a pregnant woman driving the other day…without a seat belt!
Please do not do that!!!
I drove to work till a week before I was due everyday. I drove about 45 minutes to an hour each way. I would say as long as you don't have any health conditions that can cause problems for you or your child it's okay. My OBGYN was okay with me driving. Like maroush said do take breaks in middle if you need to get streched or just refuel yourself :). I did okay alhumdulliah but towards the end I did start getting back aches which I guess are normal towards the end.
Re: Driving and pregnancy ..
I am 6 months preggers now! I still drive every day to work and back, I also go back to visit the parents every 2/3 weeks that's about 2 hours there and 2 hours back. It is fine, but if you feel tired don't over do it. You can make yourself comfortable, use cushions and stuff for your back and neck and make sure you have snacks and fluids on hand so that your sugar levels don't go down.

Thanks so much for the valuable advise everyone , yesterday a good friend whose 4 months pregnant , was told that she will have to drive to birmingham and back for a few weeks and we got into a discussion where i thought driving for extended period must definitely have an impact on pregnancy … clearly i was wrong
.. phew …
but what i dont understand is that during driving sometimes one can experience sudden jerks , sudden stops etc … is it safe still?
Re: Driving and pregnancy ..
It's safe to drive ... but my family was over protective and I wasn't "allowed" to drive. I didn't mind though. :)
Re: Driving and pregnancy ..
yes its safe
Re: Driving and pregnancy ..
CB, begum says it's safe, but try not to sit in one position, whether flying or driving or just sitting, for more than an hour at a time. Make sure you get up and walk around every hour for 5 minutes to get the blood flow going, the threat here being blood clots.
Maybe safe for her but not for the other drivers and pedestrians .. you know what they say about women drivers and that also pregnant .. loaded with hormonal imbalance .. ![]()
