          DRINKING WATER

First of all have a seat before drinking the water and then drink the glass of water in 3 parts :

Starting with Bismillah hir-Rahma nir-Rahim.

After drinking the first part say ‘’ Subhanallah’’ — after 2nd part say ‘‘Alhamdo lillah’’ and after the last part of water say ‘’ Allah ho Akbar’':wave:

i knew about sitting down and drinking water in 3 mouth fulls but not about praying 2

What if you are drinking from one of those Big Gulps from the local Gas'n'sip?

easy just take three (3) mouthfulls at a time and finish the drink in this sequence

I thought you could do it standing up too..

Volume 7, Book 69, Number 519:
Narrated An-Nazzal:

All came to the gate of the courtyard (of the Mosque) and drank (water) while he was standing and said, "Some people dislike to drink while standing, but *I saw the Prophet doing (drinking water) as you have seen me doing now." *

Volume 7, Book 69, Number 520:
Narrated An-Nazzal bin Sabra:

'Ali offered the Zuhr prayer and then sat down in the wide courtyard (of the Mosque) of Kufa in order to deal with the affairs of the people till the 'Asr prayer became due. Then water was brought to him and he drank of it, washed his face, hands, head and feet. Then he stood up and drank the remaining water while he was standing. and said, "Some people dislike to drink water while standing thought the *Prophet did as I have just done." *

Volume 7, Book 69, Number 521:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

The Prophet drank Zam-Zam (water) while *standing. *

Volume 7, Book 69, Number 522:
Narrated Um Al-Fadl:

(daughter of Al-Harith) that she sent a bowl of milk to the Prophet while he was standing (at 'Arafat) in the afternoon of the Day of 'Arafat. He took it in his hands and drank it. Narrated Abu Nadr: The Prophet was on the back of his camel.

The following are some of the Sunnats of drinking:

  1. To sit and drink. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith6452 and Sahih Muslim)
  2. To drink with the right. (Sahih Bukhari)
  3. To take 3 sips (Sahih Muslim)
  4. Not to breath into the utensil (Mustadrak al-Haakim)
  5. To say Bismillah before drinking. (Sahih Bukhari and al-Azkaar)
  6. To recite the following Du'aa after drinking, 'Alhamdulillaahi llaadhiy at'ama wa saqaa, wa sawwaqahu wa ja'ala lahu makhraja.' (Abu Dawud). This Du 'aa could also be recited after eating. (Ibid)
