do you think your social circle and lifestyle affects your taste in clothes?
I have hte tastes and likes of a social butterfly–someone who has tons of events to go to (thus tons of outfits ;)), and knows how to doll herself up.
Ok I used to dressed like a nawi dulhan ages before i got married (i still hope the brides forgive me for wearing a lengha on their weddings :() but that changed since i got married.
in my in laws noone dresses up very much, they all dress very simple. none of my friends dress up very much either, cz they’re unmarried or just really really religious and conservative (so that when they wear even a cotton jora they look really beautiful mA). nobody in my immediate family dresses up. my husband doesn’t go to any events or gatherings with me. so with all that i feel so awkward dressing up. but yet im tired of being self conscious and overthinking abt dressing up.
i certainly hope i’m not the only one who overthinks and psychoanalyzes the concept of dressing up
never compromise on what you enjoy, like you, im such a clothes horse, (not so much jewellery).
My husband likes to see me dressed well, however not to keen to spend the $$$$$ on my taste (lol), but even he has started comparing how well my look/taste is compared to others.
Who cares what others are wearing, and you know what, people always remember and admire you for your look (they may not say it to your face) but i have had compliments from when people had seen me years ago with some outfit they liked (didnt bother complimenting me at the time), but hey whats a few years between family and friends?
no you’re not the only one sara. i usually dress according to where i’m going, and what kind of people are going to be there, because i don’t like being over or under dressed. my mom on the other hand doesn’t care where she’s going, she likes dressing up, and when i tell her not to wear something so fancy because so and so are going to be there and they dress very simpley, my mom’s like so what? just because they don’t know how to dress, doesn’t mean i shouldn’t dress well either and plus, when am i ever going to wear these then? and i think she’s right. dress according to the occasion, it doesn’t matter how the people around you dress. if you know your outfit is suitable for the occasion, there wear it!
I love dressing up, eids, weddings, funerals (yes carefully i think out what im going to wear so i look suitable for it but still stylish ;))
Sometimes i do feel rather self conscious tho, but if im wearing a simple lehnga at a wedding, its not like i look like the bride right so all good IMO!!
Dress up jawani doesn't last forever ;) I want my great grand kids to be like woah, our great grand mummy was hot lol! (how sad i know)

I'm the same way...I tend to dress according to the event and the social circle.
I love clothes, buying them, wearing them, accessorizing with the right touches, etc.
Most of my friends do not dress up the way I do, they are far more casual and sometimes casual is good too. But for me, I enjoy looking nice as much as I can.
Ditto to what everyones said! I get it from my mum too, mashallah she dresses so well wherever she goes, and all the other aunties are normally like heyyy where did you get your suit/bangles blah blah
ps check out my signature, sums up my feelings completely lol
before marriage i used to dress up but not that heavy but after marriage my husband is always very keen to see me in good condition:P and just by dressing well he is used to buy me some ice-cream or we dine-out ..like not only he praises me but mashallah gives reward to me as well(sometimes money-reward)...and so far as the social circle is concerned..i love doing makeup but not like full 2-3 clr eyeshadow and heavy base every time...we have 1 lady in our circle like this...i dont know why but she is always as if some valeema or baraat is going on chahay sirf iftari he kio na ho ..loves 2 wear gaudy clothes jub k aisa koi mauka nai hota...while another lady says mai to makeup krti he nai muje pasand he nai rolling eyes..but bcz my hubby likes so i dress up acc. 2 the occasion and venue as well...now after seeing me one friend has started doing that as well.. and i like it ppl change themselves by looking at me:)
I dress up. All kaam walay joras at parties and all. Funny as when I lived in Pakistan I didn't wear the kaam walay joras that much but now---!! For some reason people dress up more in the US than in Pakistan. I think its everyone's personal choice, whether you dress simply or dress up more "bling"
...we have 1 lady in our circle like this...i dont know why but she is always as if some valeema or baraat is going on chahay sirf iftari he kio na ho ..loves 2 wear gaudy clothes jub k aisa koi mauka nai hota...
THATS why I hesitate to dress up, esp when I am alone (not attending with friends or family....), i wud hate anyone to think that of me..ugh...
yeah i know...insecurity and lacking confidence =/
my mom on the other hand doesn't care where she's going, she likes dressing up, and when i tell her not to wear something so fancy because so and so are going to be there and they dress very simpley, my mom's like so what? just because they don't know how to dress, doesn't mean i shouldn't dress well either and plus, when am i ever going to wear these then?
hahahaha so right!!! why shud i downplay it when everyone else dresses like a bum?
last time i overdressed...it was really embarrassing for me. so i'd nver want to be that awkward again. urf.
