Dressing up according to your body shape and type

I have observed that most of the people(yes I am generalizing) don’t wear clothes as per their body shape/type and I am not only talking about desi people. Sometimes people tend to follow fashion, sometimes their personal preference and some times just to experiment which results in embarrassing situations.

There was an urdu/hindi saying some where that “khao man bhata, pehno jag bhata” (Eat what you like, wear what others like) which kind of make sense that even if you are wearing what you like majority may not appreciate and these opinions should matter because other people are the ones who are looking at you.

Last night I was invited in a desi party and there was this one khatoon, who was wearing some designer dress which has like a short shirt and printed tights but her body shape was more or less like an apple which just made her just look awkward.

I am just wondering what goes in such people’s mind when they check themselves in mirror before heading out. :hmmm:

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

"I look GOOD!"

its called confidence.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

If the way somebody dresses makes them happy then let them dress that way. If it bothers you that much just look away. As long as their not parading around naked then let them. The way somebody dresses doesn't necessarily affect you.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

Looking good and feeling good are different. I wish more people understood what clothes best flatters their body type and stick to it rather than give in to a trend/look that takes away from them. Because we all have great bodies, just different ways of accentuating them.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

Yes, I wear whatever I want. I know the so called "rules", but I wear whatever I am comfortable in. The word fat has different meanings to different people anyway. Of course a 300 lb person is fat to everyone but a 150 lb one is up to debate. I see women with very heavy arms wearing sleeveless and even though I don't wear them myself, I always say all the more power to them.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

Not everything in fashion is for everyone.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

so, extremely obese people should drape themselves in small/medium/large/XL tents? :D

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

I also dont get the trend that every party dress is big huge dress now a days ..and I saw mostly mature big ladies who thinks they are still young wearing them .doesnot look nice .I think when we r following the fashion we should consider our body type too..for instance long shirts are not for every one too especially short heighted ladies.and short shirts are not for those who has big upper bodies means top and backs because it just not sit right on the body . Also same things with bottoms too either its tights , pant style or palazzo or shalwaar.but I think only one piece of fabric looks good and perfect on every one thats one piece dress also so called abaya, now a days there are so many differnt types of abaya that is lookz like a dress but nicely shaped not too flare and not too tight that reveals body shape .

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

This is the problem with stupid “dress for your body rules”–they only address ONE so-called “flaw” or “issue”

what if you’re short and have a large upper body?

:ahaa:

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

Everyone has the right to dress in the way they like. I don’t think there is anyone dressing up to make others feel uncomfotable.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

Well to everyone who is saying that they prefer to dress (or others people should dress) the way the want/feel comfortable in. I don't agree much on that as we do take care of what people might think when we are dressing up. There is are reason people don't wear flashy clothes to a funeral or PJ's to a job interview.
When we are considering the occasion, the place, the circumstances etc. then why don't also consider what makes us look better and what not.

And my post had nothing to do with a person being fat so I am not sure where every one is getting that idea from. I would have the same POV if a skinner person wears a baggy/tent like dress.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

But why care?

If that's what that lady prefers to wear then so be it.....Who are we to decide/wonder/ponder what others should/shouldn't wear?!? Such observations are very juvenile and pointless

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

Different people have different taste in their dresses and make up, I don't like someone that dressed in plus size dress that can't show their real good figure.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

people try taste in their dresses

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

of course we should respect people's choices but c'mon....haven't you ONCE seen someone wearing an unflattering style and wondered why they didn't see the flaw? whether it was the fact that they have a pear-shaped body or that they have no bust and couldn't be bothered with a padded or push-up bra......sometimes people fail to see how they could improve their appearance with just a little bit of effort.

Re: Dressing up according to your body shape and type

I don't wear them myself, I always say all the more power to them.
