dress swaping

Hi, I know this might sound really stupid but me and my friend were talking bout wedding expenses today and we think that its absolutely ridiculous to spend thousandsss of dollars on an outfit that you wear only ONCE in your lifetime…so we came up wid this dress swaping idea. So she is already nikahed she is looking for someone in newyork who is willing to swap her nikah dress with hers just for the functions and then the dresses will go back to their original owners. any one who is interested feel free to pm me. wedding is next feb in pakistan.

Re: dress swaping

R u sure thats a good idea?? i mean don't u think it would b quite hard finding a dress with the right fitting?

Re: dress swaping

contrary to what others say, you dont HAVE to spend thousands on a wedding dress. Whatever the budget is, a dress should be the main thing, it should look good on you, be fitted perfectly for you--not for someone else.

Re: dress swaping

i’m not married yet but i would definitely be interested in that for regular clothes! however if it became too popular then people would be like “oh man i saw that outfit listed on gupshup dress exchange last month”.

This girl is selling all her outfits on ebay and they look nice:

REd Shaadi Dress Indian Wedding Lengha on eBay (end time 07-Oct-09 19:17:13 BST)

Turquoise Walima Dress Indian Wedding Lengha on eBay (end time 07-Oct-09 19:36:09 BST)

Here is another shaadi dress:
Indian Wedding dress sinze 8-12 on eBay (end time 07-Oct-09 18:16:21 BST)

Nor should it be something you only wear once.

Re: dress swaping

Diva: Majority of the brides I have seen in person and on the web do NOT have perfect fitting.. If we can find close matches and obviously pick and choose the color and style from avaliable options I think it would work. ...
Sahar: Unless its shalwar kameez I highly doubt the dress would be wearable again. I mean honestly where are you gona wear a heavy lehnga to?

Sara : I have been looking around and the cheapest price that I got was 1500 USD for a lehnga that barely had any work on it...I wil really appreciate if someone can tell us where to find cheaper bridal wear. =)

Thanks for the feedback..

Re: dress swaping

Lenghas are usually re-worn at a close relative's wedding...more so if it's not very heavy--as long as you keep the jewelery low key and do NOT wear the duputta on the head u can get away with it. Why not get an anarkali or churidar if u'd like to be able to wear it a few times? Many brides wear those.

It's easy to get a cheaper lengha (for less than 1K) in Pakistan, but if going to pak is not an option, take a look at the Bazaar Forum. lots of designers who may be able to help you and accomodate ur budget

Re: dress swaping

QTMD...i have my Nikah's dress..its golden color dress full work on shirt and dupata...ask her if she like :p

Re: dress swaping

No need to make it unreasonably heavy. You should be able to wear it again to a close friend's or relatives wedding.

Not saying anything against doing the swap. I'm just saying that you don't HAVE to make something that will only be worn once.

Re: dress swaping

Does she have a budget? You can easily buy a non-designer bridal lehnga in Karachi for Rs. 50,000.

Aisha Khadeeja’s bridals start from Rs. 70,000.
