Dress Code ....

There is this debate going on … whether muslim women tennis players should wear skirts while playing or not …

If this argument is accepted (dont wear skirt but wear something that will cover you completely )… Then muslim men watching women tennis (where girls wearing skirt) is haram / sin or not .

Re: Dress Code ....

From my understanding...there is an issue with watching it live as you are actually viewing the woman rather than her reflection and in that case you are required to lower the gaze...but in terms of watching it on TV its OK because you arent seeing her in the flesh...
In terms of what you view on TV there is a distinction between hard awrah and soft awrah...a girls legs from my understanding are soft awrah...whilst her privates are considered hard awrah...
The same applies for men...so watching soccer live is an issue because men have not covered their awrah...but its fine to watch on TV...

Re: Dress Code …

… so watching live by men can be objectionable …

Re: Dress Code ....

From what iv been told yeh...

Re: Dress Code …

Women in Islam are not allowed to wear skirts or for that matter any dress which is skin tight or revealing. If a woman plays tennis in some other dress it will still be inappropriate because a woman running all over is not permissable. If woman in Islam are not allowed to go to a mosque if there is any chance of fitna playing tennis cant be islamic at all no matter what dress she wears.

The men who watch them play are obviously also commiting sin by watching her play. But nowadays noone follows. As far as Sania mirza is concerned she also apared in some ads too in which she was wearing her usual skirt which she plays ina match. So even off-court she is wearing a skirt. But no one is following Islam these days in its true form and in case of sania mirza she is a practising muslim otherwise.some muslim bodies in India supported her playing tennis

Re: Dress Code ....

During the Taliband days Pakistani soccer Team toured afghanistan and the taliban authorities shaved their heads because they played soccer wearing shorts.

Re: Dress Code ....

LOL. i can imagine what the Taliban will do when they take over the provincial government of Punjab.

Re: Dress Code ....

Syedpk...the concept of men and womens awrah isnt being questioned...as in no-one is trying to ask whether the way Sania Mirza dresses is Islamic...thats clear...
The question is regarding whether we can say watch tennis where someone is showing their awrah?...

Re: Dress Code ....

Assalamualakum
Jazak Allahu kheirun bro syedpk

The dress code is islamically incorrect and since men MUST lower their gaze when a nonmahram women (ESPECIALLY when she is NOT dressed according to the Islamic laws) comes into view, I cant see how they could watch this.

Most of all when women are running around in this manner, which is immodest.

Like I said, as long as women dress in a good manner in front of other women, I believe there is no problem with them playing sports with other girls (as long as there are nooo men watching!)

Naughty by Nature you have a very interesting corrupted theory. So if a women on the street is wearing a mini skirt you better not look, but if shes on Tv its ok?

Please dont state that "thats what you heard" when what you heard had no proof and when what you can tell us has nothing from the quran or sunnah!

Re: Dress Code ....

I agree with you maymunah that wearing skirts is unislamic and is not allowed in Islam but nowadays no one follows Islam in its true form i am not justifying anyone whoever commits a sin or perform an act which is unislamic is wrong. As far as sania is concerned she is otherwise not doing anything bad except her dress.

women playing sports only in the presence of their sex is nobody's problem even after the women marathon controvery that happened in punjab even the religious clerics agreed that women can take part in a covered facility watched only by women.

And as far as watching her play on T.V. if one looks at islam. Many ulemas have commented on what to watch on T.V. and what not and i think all will agree that watching her even on T.V is not permissable.like i have said it before no one follows Islam in its true form but according to the shariah watching woman play tennis on T.V. is not allowed

Re: Dress Code ....

i stated that it is simply what iv heard...and i could be wrong...

From the understanding i was given...your analogy is in accordance with it...islamically you should lower your gaze in person but it is not neccesary when watching TV...unless you are viewing hard awrah...so i was told i could watch football on TV but i could no longer go and see games live...and lower your gaze in public but its fine to watch the fresh prince...

Like i said i could be wrong...and i dont have evidence...its just an answer to a question i had a long time ago...

So if you have any evidence please provide some...

And if im not correct from your understanding...we cant actually watch women on TV cos we are required to lower our gaze...please correct me if iv misunderstood you...

Jazakallah

Re: Dress Code …

so if wearing skirts is sin … then those who are objecting to sania’s dress code and the same time they watch womens tennis are hypocrates …

Re: Dress Code …

absolutely people who are objecting her dress and watch women tennis are hypocrites no doubt what so ever.
