Our culture has sometimes taught us to be modest in our thoughts and dreams… bachoN don’t reach out for big big things, and all that.
Now as times change, you realize we need to set goals in our lives so we have something to achieve and strive toward, and when those goals are achieved you have a sense of accomplishment.
I like to have my daughters set goals, well at least the older one as she can understand that concept now. In fact I like to have her participate in programs that are a little harder for her age. I don’t stop her if she says she’s like to have such and such thing when she grows older…well why not? I mean yeah there should be a right balance and all but I don’t want them to be raised with an “average” mentality. At least we as parents have the ability to provide the resources and time, but what are the healthy standards one should set where you can offer a challenge for growth without hurting a kid’s self esteem?
