Drawing Room Soaps

What’s up with our television entertainment industry just portraying the paltry issues of the upper class populace. I’m starting to get fed up of the artificial and inconsequential scandals, affairs and business matters concentrating only on one segment of the population.

Why not show the plight of the poor and the underprivileged masses? Isn’t media doing a disfavor to the public by its synthetic obsession with biased depictions of the problems in our society?

Re: Drawing Room Soaps

coz ppl dont watch soaps to feel miserable or get educated, we have so many talk shows goinf on to make us aware of the plight of the down trodden, soaps are for zero brain utilty..

Re: Drawing Room Soaps

I don't know if there is a book definition of 'soap', but in my mind they are synonymous with 'endless' and 'mindless'. So I am not sure if life's problems have a suitable audience in soap-viewers.

But if you look at proper dramas by PTV, they would cover village life and many issues in rural and urban societies. Some famous ones that come to mind are Waris and Khuda ki Basti. Haven't seen many dramas lately, so can't comment on the new productions.

Re: Drawing Room Soaps

^ exactly Faisal... whatever happened to the likes of Waris and Samadar sigh

Re: Drawing Room Soaps

I think PTV have produced enough dramas to highlight the poor and the underprivileged masses of the society, e.g. like the ones faisal has mentioned and Drama’s like Marvi and dramas that have a wadera saein type characters in it.

I prefer drama’s with a real meaning , dramas that portray real life issues such as Karb, kahaniaan and dramas directed by Mehreen Jabbar.

I think Kaantay is an example of the type of dramas you are talking about in your first post Umar.
