Drawing on Lips

yay or nay?

many people use the technique of lining just outside the natural lip line to change the shape of your mouth?

my upper lip is considerably thinner than my lower lip and I’m told that I should try this technique…

Re: Drawing on Lips

Me too...my upper is quite thin. I was doing this drawing thing for a while then I got too lazy. I feel it has to be subtle though and just be happy with minuscule gain in thickness otherwise highly nayyyyy!

Re: Drawing on Lips

^agree, should b every subtle
I have thin upper lip too. The mua on my wedding did very obvious lining and I hated it

Re: Drawing on Lips

Its worth a try and it does look good I think..but only if the lipcolor/lipliners are blended in well and its not a drastic difference in shape.......have seen far too much of the dark lipliner + light lipstick. ..but ya gotta be super careful..last time I had this done was at a wedding in Pakistan..and for my own wedding.

Re: Drawing on Lips

can someone please post good and bad pics ???

Re: Drawing on Lips

Sometimes you actually end up defining the thinness of your lips if you don't blend the colour properly....but I'm not a make up expert in any way so don't take my word. lol

You can try googling make up of celebs with thin lips to see if you can figure out the techniques used, I was looking at Kirsten Dunst pictures but the pictures weren't big/clear enough to do a break down of her make up on her lips, I'll remember this thread next time I come across celebs who might have done the lip pencil technique to define lips that you way you want....

Re: Drawing on Lips

^What Jolie says is spot-on. If you draw the shape without blending, you only emphasize the thinness of your lips. Someone I know had their wedding makeup like that. Basically, she had very thin lips + small mouth and the makeup artist had taken red lip liner and defined her lips while putting a pale sheer gloss on the inside. :smack:

The best way to “draw” on your lips is to first cancel out any pigment by either going over it with foundation/concealer or one of those lip eraser things (I know MAC sells one) and then taking a lip liner which will match your lipstick go around the edges in small strokes and follow the shape of your natural lips but only slightly pulling upwards. Then fill them in with the lip liner and go over it with your lip color.

Orrrrr if your lips aren’t uber-thin and they just need a little definition you can try another trick which requires 2 lip liners. Taking a lipliner which matches your actual lip color (think MAC Subculture or Stripdown) line around your lips (not exaggerating or going beyond the actual line) and then take a darker lip liner, possibly more taupe or brown in shade and *liiiiightly *add in strokes of liner around the edges of the previous line (which you created with the lighter lip liner) to add in some shadow and definition. Also, gloss always makes lips look more plumper and fuller. Highlighting the cupid’s bow with some powder highlighter is known to give the illusion of fuller lips. You can also just use gloss to “highlight” the cupid’s bow instead of using powder.
