Dravid's obsession with Sehwag continues

*This time, he is “concerned” over Sehwag’s inability to score big *—

“Definitely for someone of Sehwag’s calibre, we truly do believe that he should go all the way and play bigger innings,” David answered when asked whether the absence of a big innings from Sehwag was a cause for concern.
Dravid pointed out that the opening batsman was getting the starts but not building upon them.

“He is getting starts and he is not carrying on. That is definitely something we know that Sehwag should do. Sehwag himself knows that he must start converting those starts into meaningful contributions for the team.”

After scoring 95 against West Indies at Port of Spain in May last year, Sehwag has managed to post only one century and a 50 in his last 18 innings. During this time, he has aggregated 440 runs at an average of 24.44.

His sequence of scores since the Port of Spain knock has been 9, 8, 1, 10, 9, 17, 65 (against Australia), 0, 18, 11, 19, 12, 46, 2, 114 (against Bermuda), 48, 30 and 21, the last two scores coming up in the ongoing series against Bangladesh.

Now I hope Sehwag will score a half century and thus successfully keep himself hanging in the team for another series, where he may score a century or half after trying in 5-6 matches…

May this story never end :grumpy:

Re: Dravid's obsession with Sehwag continues

^ They should try arranging a Test match or ODI (2-3 ODI series) against Pakistan quickly so Shewag can score big.

Re: Dravid's obsession with Sehwag continues

Absolutely agreed. Most of the Indian players should thank Pakistani players for their averages.

Biggest gainers are Sehwag, Pathan, Yuvraj, Dhoni & list goes on........

Re: Dravid's obsession with Sehwag continues

Sehwag's ODI form is getting questioned in this article and while the records for some Indian batsmen is good agaisnt Pakistan in ODI's Sehwag is not one of them. He averages exactly 1 run more against Pakistan compared to his career average.

It's like saying Afridi should play agaisnt India cause he average 2 runs more agaisnt India compared to his career average.

Dravid needs to realize that Sehwag is not a batsman of any calibre. Indian's compared to him Sachin Tendulkar when he first started but after so many years of cricket people need to realize he is not even good enough to be in Indian team let alone by compared to legendry Sachin Tendulkar. He averages a little over 30 in ODi's which for someone with that much hype is pathetic. Part ways with him now and prepare someone else for future. If it was up to me I'd rather open with Uthapa and Gambhir then Sehwag.

Re: Dravid's obsession with Sehwag continues

The fact of the matter is :
Sehwag relies heavily on missed chances to play a long innings.
And Pakistan, probably the worst fielding side among all Test playing nations, provide Sehwag with the best opportunity to score big....like the triple century he scored after more than half a dozen chances went abegging.
