Can you guys please name some good dramas that are available on DVDs? I am specially looking for the ones based on ‘Novels’. Thankyou.
Re: Dramas availabe on DVD
i don’t know if you have seen ‘wajood-e-laraib’ but its an excellent drama, old one though. Its based on a novel written by umera ahmed. another one that comes to mind is ‘harjaee’, i recently saw it on dvd, it was originally aired on ptv prime quite a while ago, its not based on a novel but the story is really powerful. heres a link to its teaser
Re: Dramas availabe on DVD

Re: Dramas availabe on DVD
But no dvd shop has the classic Jhok Sayyal
Re: Dramas availabe on DVD
When I was in Pakistan last year, I read this novel, "Man-o Salwa" by Umeira Ahmed.. I loved it.. However I just saw the drama on you tube and honestly they killed it.. I only watched the last episode since ending was my fvorite but it didn't do any justice to her novel.. in fact it wasn't even what it should have been.. she was supposed to be wearing a red dress, a coat that Karam got her and then she leaves those with the people she sees on the roadside everyday(n usually gives them a coin or two) while she follows her dad's voice barefoot on ICE.. None of it was there.. totally disappointed! They shouldn't ruin such good novels :-(
So yeah dun watch Man-o Salwa even though it's a novel based drama!
But no dvd shop has the classic Jhok Sayyal
which drama was that, if u don't mind elaborating? sounds familiar.
Re: Dramas availabe on DVD
Thanks for the reply guys.
Man-o-salwa has been on my list although everyone said they ruined it. :D
Wajood-e-laraib is another one.
sure.
I fond this synopsis from Arjay’s thread:
*JHOKE SIYAL (1975-76) of PTV-Lahore Studios;
"JHOKE SIYAL, based on the novel of Shabbir Shah (Tahira Syed’s father) was adapted for TV by Munnoo Bhai in 1975. The serial, directed by PTV’s ever robust and high profile–energetic tall man Yawar Hayat. The first episode gave clear signs that JHOKE SIYAL, would be a rocker…and it was.
The cast as I remember (because I was with Yawar during recording of one of the middle episode..his brother Khawar being my cousin’s buddy at PBS then) was; Badiuzzaman, M. Ayub, Salim Nasir, Abid Ali and Humaira Chaudhry… who later married Abid Ali and their daughter Imaan Ali is the famous model of our country–these days a craze due to KHUDA KE LEEAY.
JHOKE SIYAL (Jhoke meaning a VILLAGE or HAMLET) broke records on viewership. Every cast member did 100 $ worth performance and the famous dialogue PEER SAIEN AANDA AIE…TEY MITTHAY CHAWAL KHANDAA AIE" was on every lips as a pillow talk.
JHOKE SIYAL entered the Russian TV & Film Festival at Tashkent and won the Certificate of Merit for being declared a serial close to the realities of medievial masters and their practices on saintly blessings they propogated.
PTV has been fortunate to retain the recording of this super duper serial at it’s archieves in PTV Headquarters-Islamabad and as per my understanding.. JHOKE SIYAL is poised for a re-run after ages—soon on PTV-One and PTV-World.
Anyone..having more info on JHOKE SIYAL…is encouraged to write more on this classic and most remembered serial of PTV-Lahore Studios.

Re: Dramas availabe on DVD
wajood-e-laraib was good though it's very serious type of drama.I found it a bit too dry for my liking as there was no humor.

Re: Dramas availabe on DVD
wajood-e-laraib is a very intense story, lilly is right, its very serious drama. its about about 2 brothers, the older is the responsible and mature one who handles the family business (faisal qureishi) and the younger is spoilt rotten (fahad mustfa) keeps bad company, always demanding money from his brother, HATES his brother as he sees him as the one standing btw him and the family money. When the older brother gets married (to faiza hassan) the fights escalate and eventually the younger brother ends up killing his own older brother.
There is a parallel story about another guy (adnan siddiqui) who gets wrongly accused of a friends murder and is sent to jail, where he completely changes, finds religion as his saviour. this is where the 2 plots meet…the younger brother in jail meets this guy and they form a bond and ofcourse the brother is rehabilitated and very repentent about his behaviour. there is ofcourse a romantic twist too which is very deep and touching, faiza hassan (buns road ki niloofar wali actress) has acted superbly!
if u don’t want to spend money on it, u can watch it on this link:
Re: Dramas availabe on DVD
thanx for the info on jhok siyal, lilly, it does sound great. PTV should get all their classic dramas from their archives and re-release them as a tribute to the dramatic excellence, people are still talking about them, they should be honoured. In the west they keep re-releasing the great classic movies on their anniversaries and millions buy them even though they have been seen a million times already! I'm sure our dramas which are hard to find will also be a big success. Maybe we should email PTV and press them for it.
