drama drama

I don’t really know much about the problems that could happen if one chose to marry somebody outside their race.

So I would like some examples of what could happen in a family/social situation.

and What would be your expectations from your spouse?

Re: drama drama

my parents would abandon me. they're really conservative when it comes to marrying into race and religion. but religion > race. if spouse is still muslim i guess it still is ok.

i know a couple of families in the community whose kids have married outside the race and religion and the family generally accepts them as they have no choice.

Re: drama drama

^Quite a few parents do genuinely come round.. it's not always cos they have no choice..

Kakee, desis in particular tend to worry about the effect on their parents.. when large/extended families are the norm it's seen as a negative if your parents and his parents aren't close or can't/won't mix (could be down to a genuine language barrier or that they just don't feel comfortable).. Obviously these sorts of marriages are seen as the joining of two families and not just the individuals so their wishes are taken more into account..

Some ppl worry about losing their culture, 'mother tongue', a different style of dressing or even eating a different type of food to what they've grown up with and have become used to.. Traditions tend to get watered down or disappear altogether when living abroad so some people become more focused on preserving them and they prob see marriage within the same race as the easiest way of doing that..
