As far as I know, Dr Zakir Naik never claimed to be a scholar, he always comes across as someone who takes his duty of dawaa very seriously. People who have this notion of him being an alim/scholar are also wrong, Dr Zakir Naik has never passed a fatwa on the basis of his authority.

Word. He refers to himself as a Da’ee, not an Alim.

P.S. I have objection to some of his views but that does not mean I can knock on him simply because he is on TV. We have ‘Armchair Alims’ everywhere, he puts a face to the name and comes out in public to present his views. Again, I have no allegiance to him neither do I hate him.
