Dr. Shahid Masood takes charge of Chairman PTV **
ISLAMABAD, Jun 21 (APP): Renowned political analyst and columnist Dr. Shahid Masood took over charge of Chairman Pakistan Television Corporation here on Saturday. He will also hold additional charge of Managing Director PTV.
Dr. Shahid, who is a doctor by profession, was the Group Executive Director of Geo Network and served ARY network as senior Executive Director.
He obtained fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons, U.K and adopted medical profession and worked in Pakistan, Ireland and the U.K.
He later got affiliated with media after September 11, 2001.
He got scholarship with CNN from Pakistan in 2005 and extensively carried out coverage of three wars including Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon which was keenly watched and admired by the people.
As news analyst Dr. Shahid set new yardsticks and his famous programme “Views on News” for ARY, and more recently “Meray Mutabaq” for Geo network had a large audience in Pakistan and among the Urdu-speaking community around the world.
Dr. Shahid is known for his open and candid views on national and international issues, and his programme “Views and News” had to face government’s restrictions many a times for his critical views on matters of national importance.
After the events of Sept. 11, Dr. Shahid interviewed many renowned people, worth mentioned among these are President Pervez Musharraf, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, former Baluchistan Governor, Nawab Akbar Bugti and former CIA Director James Wille.
Dr. Shahid has been a critic of international war against terrorism, policies of U.S-led coalition in Iraq and Afghanistan and those of President Musharraf.
It is believed that Dr. Shahid was made to leave ARY under the pressure of the then government, after which he joined the Geo TV.
More recently, Dr. Masood completed his major in International Relations and Defence Studies from the prestigious and historic Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
It is widely expected that appointment of Dr. Shahid will greatly help improve the quality of PTV’s programmes, especially those related to the current affairs, and bring them in line with the country’s aspirations and requirement.
With the election of the democratic government, committed to the freedom of expression, PTV has an important role to play in promotion of democratic norms and harmonious culture in the country.

I think he has been the better candidate of PTV all this time, keeping in mind how "pro" or "against" he can be, so being incharge of PTV we might see new heights of licking the boots (or otherwise) :D. For his denying of coming last storm in southern part of Sindh part alone he should be denied any public position.

I wonder what will happen to "Meray Mutabaq"? Even though the program was recently banned from UAE government but now as the Geo has moved to Pakistan, we have not heard the future of this program yet. Capital Talk however has been restored. Especially now, after Dr. Shahid Masood have taken charge of PTV's #1 position, I wonder if he we cut off his position with Geo or will still keep that program going? Does anybody has any information on that?
I personally like Dr. Shahid Masood, and he is undoubtedly a premier journalist of our time. He is not only known among Urdu speaking people but he is well renowned worldwide.
I have good feeling that he can bring PTV up to the level of other Pakistani TV channels. At lease in current affair programs. The guy doesn't seem to be a loata type. He has his own principles and I am sure he will not compromise on them.

I must say I don't know too much the guy, but I like his interview style. I hope he will turn PTV around & make it what it should be a real public service corp & not partisan propaganda machine.
He might bring some modern quality and appealing programming and production which he is used to at the faster paced and more competitive pvt sat channels.
Surely what it should be, but never is. And its proven yet again that it probably wont ever be, atleast not for the next 5 more years or under any elected government either. He was not the only man suitable for this job at this point in time. The appointment alone is based on various plans.

Waisay, Dr. Shahid Masood have not spared any crook of our country. He has talked about all the terrorism done by Altaaf, corruption done by Zardari, lies on deal of Nawaz Sharif. The guy have shown guts and he is not scared of anybody.
Why do you think his program was banned three times? Cause he talked the truth.

The point is that it's hard to beleive that the guy would have sold his soul.
Dr. Shahid Masood isn't a coward like we see all around in journalism or politics of Pakitsan.

The main point here being that the illegal president ran to his bosses in states and through them got shahid masood's programmes banned on GEO. PPP has retaliated by making him incharge of PTV, a direct confrontation with the illegal president. How will the coward now react.
Wonder why this brilliant strategy was not put into effect before the illegal president was running around like headless chicken trying got get him banned from GEO. Think again.

Two things come to mind:
It's a very slick move by Zardari via Gilani to give Shahid Masood something to do and prevent him from continuing his renowned program which often delivered fever to previous Govt. This way he is bound by state run television rules to obey and present a pro-government image as much as possible.
It's a second message to Musharraf. First was him being banned from appearance on PTV. This may be another way to show him that anyone, at anytime can be replaced or appointed to any position of the current Govt's liking, even if it burns the "President".
Personally i think it's a little of both. One the one hand they've, without making a media issue out of it, appointed Dr. Shahid as a network head thus preventing him or atleast encouraging him to tone down a bit. And secondly it has flashed yet another red light on the illegal avenue of "President's" previous doings where he used to shut down the entire network (i.e. Geo TV).
But......What if Dr. Shahid Masood, under a new programme name, starts a similar program to the previous with a proxy host?...:)

why would he be bound? an outspoken loudmouth critic that he is, he should be able to walk away from any contract that he thinks is putting too much restrictions on him. And if that happens, that would spell more trouble for Zardari then for Masood. And I am sure Zardari must have calculated this risk factor before making this appointment.
Once again GEO’s lies have been exposed. The programmes that GEO said had been banned had not been banned at all. Shahid Masood left GEO for an excellent opportunity at PTV, and Hamid Mir is back from a break. Baychara GEO.
