Dr Salam: his work

so I read he shared his Nobel with another physicist.

Re: Dr Salam: his work

Great thread Babaji. I wonder where you got that awesome idea from. Ok let me set the ball in motion, and have others join.

There are 4 fundamental forces known to us. Electromagnetic, Strong Nuclear, Weak Nuclear, and Gravity. It was believed that each force has force particles associated with it, and the force field exists when these particles are bumping off between bodies. Here is the list of forces, and associated particles.

Electromagnetic > Photon
Strong Nuclear > Gluon
Weak Nuclear > W and Z
Gravity > Graviton

With the exception of Graviton, all other particles are discovered, but as always, those discoveries were not accidental. Theoretical physicist predicted them (including their behavior and all), and the particles were later discovered in particle accelerators, where scientists created those conditions to observe the particle, which were predicted by the theoretical physicists (I think the exception is Photon maybe, as its visible to naked eye so no prediction or particle accelerators were required to observe that).

It is also to be noted that Grand Unification Theory predicts that all the 4 forces are actually manifestation of one single force. In fact Electricity and Magnetism were initially regarded as two separate forces till Maxwell unified them into electromagnetism. Einstein spent major portion of his life, trying to come up with the Grand unification theory.

in 1979, Dr. Salam along with 2 other scientist successfully able to show that Electromagnetism and Weak nuclear forces can be unified, and the theoretical force particle that they predicted were called W and Z particles. Few years later, scientist were able to observe those particles in a particle accelerator. Dr. Salam and the other 2 fellows were awarded for their contribution in Physics.

Re: Dr Salam: his work

Boss photon sy yaad ayea... why I see things when I wear sun glasses.. should glasses not stop photons ??

Re: Dr Salam: his work

When the amount light coming through the sunglasses is less then some photons are indeed being stopped ... also a coloured filter infers that light of given wavelengths are transmitted and other photons are intercepted. Sunglasses hence act like photon filters and photon blocks as well ... Polaroid lenses will prevent transverse waves but allow vertical waves to enter.

You wear Sunglasses, not blinders. Sunglasses are intentionally designed to pass some light through. Rest is what brother Psyah said.
