So I have “mild” PCOS: have some cysts on both ovaries and lh:fsh is 1:1.5, all other tests are normal besides this. I do get my periods varying 28-35 days. But, I’m not able to conceive since last April. My progesterone on cd21 suggests I do ovulate, my opk is positive, but my temp never rises or either rises and doesn’t stay risen.
So today I asked my Dr. for clomid n she said no bcoz “she doesn’t like multiples”…seriously? wth?! She said I ovulate on my own so she can’t give me clomid. Okkkkkk? So wth am I supposed to take to conceive?
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
See a fertility specialist/reproductive endocrinologist.
If you do ovulate, maybe clomid isn’t the answer. You may be dealing with other issues. Your partner and you will need to go through testing to determine why you are having trouble conceiving. Also, clomid has side effects that can hinder conception. Why take it if it can cause additional problems, unless you’d sure it’s what you need?
Dr. not giving clomid
Interesting. I wonder why her reason is?
Do u know soy isoflanoes are used as a natural substitute for clomid. Research if they right for u.
Njgal: the only reason she gave me is that I ovulate myself (according to my 21 day progesterone level, which was checked twice in two consecutive months) and I will have a higher chance of twins on clomid and she doesn’t like multiples coz then I’ll have to see her more often…these were her words!
Yeah I know about soy iso, I’m gonna try them next cycle iA…but of course w/o telling her!
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
I think clomid is only given when your progesterone level is very low, you are not ovulating at all, that was my problem and I took clomid, but its not necessary you have twins or multiples babies, I didn’t had but there are chances there might be other reason for not givng you, clomid is not answer of every fertility problem
^ Yes, I understand that but I’ve also heard that people who ovulate can still take clomid to up their chances of conceiving? All my other tests are fine and my hubby’s test is fine. She told me “I don’t know why you can’t get pregnant, keep trying”. Sounds like a stupid answer to me! She didn’t even offer any recommendations to a RE or anything…just said keep trying, knowing that I’ve been trying for almost a year. I think it’s time to change her and about time I get some darn answers! ![]()
If anyone else was in a similar situation (ovulating but not conceiving) please advise what helped you, I’ll really appreciate it.
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
Yeah go for second opinion
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
definitely switch docs
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
docs want you to try naturally for a year or so.
I dont’ agree with that approach because a year is a long time to plan out conception. it literally takes over your life and that’s long time to wait and put your life and planning on hold. Every cycle do something different.
I would also suggest
taking evening primrose for EW
using OPK for tracking down your most fertile days for conception
fertility vitamins along with prenantal
pre seed lubricants
all very helpful and natural ways to make conception happen.
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
Njgal - fertility vitamins? Can you please elaborate?
Busybee - How long have you been trying?
Yeah, can you please explain fertility vitamins? I do take pre-natals regukarly. I don’t have probs with mucus, I naturally have a lot of it during ovulation, but I’ll still take epo n soy iso next cycle. I do opks too…only thing (and weirdest of all) is opk shows positive, meaning I’ll ovulate, but then my temp never rises or rises for a couple days and goes back down but the progesterone level still indicates I Ovulated…weird! I know I’m taking the temp right, on time and good sleep…Donno what’s wrong…blah!
I’ve been trying for almost a year…it’ll be a year in April.
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
There are fertility vitamins now available in the market. It’s a mix of vitmains and minerals with extra folic acid, B vitamins, green tea for women. Zinc and other minerals for men. GNC or any vitamin shoppe or pharmacy now carries them.
OPK will only let you know LH surge. It’s not a true indication whether you ovulate or not. It’s a strong one but it could be false. The only way you can tell if you do ovulate is monitor via trans vaginal ultrasound.
There is a whole process after ovulation and fertilization. Implantation is also key.
Getting tubes checked is a one the first tests women should do if it’s been over a year.
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
Fertility Blend is a vitamin that many people have recommended.
OPKs are often inaccurate for PCOS patients. Most PCOS patients have elevated LH in odd times of their cycles, and so they get false positives.
You need to see a fertility specialist for proper testing and monitoring.
Re: Dr. not giving clomid
I had the exact same issue as you. When I finally saw a reproductive endocrinologist, she gave me something called “pregnitude” while she was waiting on all my test results. I do ovulate on my own, but not regularly or sometimes it’s a very weak ovulation. Pregnitude gives you better quality eggs and also a stronger ovulation. You can buy it from the pharmacy (you have to ask the pharmacist for it, it’s behind the counter) or buy it from their website, look it up on google. After a year of trying, and having pcos, I got pregnant my first month using pregnitude, even before all my tests were back. Also use pre-seed, it’s quite beneficial.
I have also heard great things about soy isoflovens.
Yes, I understand OPKs are not reliable with pcos but the thing is I always get a +ve on cd17 AND progesterone level shows I ovulated? The only thing is that bbt doesn’t rise.
I’m assuming it’s a weak egg? There is such a thing as weak egg, right?? I’m not insulin-resistant. Has anyone taken metformin even though not insulin-resistant??
I’ll try this pregnitude thing. So many things to try next cycle lol
