ASPEN: Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s lawyer says they have written to the Embassy of Pakistan to repatriate Dr Siddiqui in exchange for Dr Shakil Afridi, and are also in touch with members of the Congress on the issue.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Tina Foster, Dr Siddiqui’s lawyer, said that they had sent a letter to the Ambassador Sherry Rehman, asking Pakistan to take action to repatriate Dr Siddiqui.
Hanging is too kind... much too kind. However since Islam forbids my people from wanton Mutilation (A good thing that it does too!) hanging or burying the traitor alive sounds like a fair deal.
I doubt he will be behind bars for long. Somthing is definitely going to happen and he will soon be addressing the nation from abroad. Have we forgotten Bannu jailbreak?
Yes, I say it’s a great idea lets do the swap, as we do really need another terrorist as a role model for our people/youth (that is already half way on its way of becoming radicalized) after they can no longer look up to and admire His Highness OBL as savior of Islam and symbol for muslim struggle and fight against dirty USA.
I don't why this lady is so important for pakistanis since she has not done anything patriotic except trying to jihad in Afghanistan. However, I see nothing wrong in exchanging her for Afridi (just hope she does not join TTP afterwards).
Also, we should release a few Indian prisoners such as Sarbjit Singh with Pakistanis in Indian jails.
Dont you understand the value and honor of being a Jihadi against US that it has to majority of Pak society?
these are supposed to be educated people who support jailing of the doctor who helped capture bin laden? and then you wnder why the rest of the world calls Pakistan terrorist state.
ofcourse it is wrong to generalize but it is getting ridiculous with some of you posting here with tens of thousands of posts to your names! there is another thread around about the Colorado shooting where some nut cases are trying to compare that with islamist terrorists and wonder why the press is not saying anything about Holmes's religion and race. Lunacy!
Seems a fair deal. But I am not sure if the US would be interested in this swap. They would prefer a jailbreak which is very easy for them.
How is it a fair deal? Exchanging a treasonous criminal for a woman who is in all likelihood, innocent? Similar to the Raymond Davis fiasco, where our govt gave him up for blood money (that was paid by our own govt!)
^ What is his crime? He helped US find OBL? Our government wasn’t doing the same? He collaborated with the CIA? ISI isn’t doing the same? By the way, are we forgetting what was he sentenced for? It wasn’t for his work with the CIA, it was for his association with some outlawed organisations.
I am not in favour of Dr Afridi, but I am 100% sure we cannot keep him imprisoned for a long time. If you want to hang him, do it today. Instead of becoming a laughingstock once again after Bannu jailbreak, it is better to trade him off for Aafia Siddiqui.

What’s your reasoning behind that other than seeing her posters all over in Anti US rallies in Pak and her name being used by great visionary and honest and committed to Pakistan’s development as a model society politicians and TV show hosts?

I concur. The woman has more than a few loose screws but she is our "sister" and we ought to protect the honour of our "sister" only because she is in US custody. If she had been gang raped in Pakistan, the same brothers would be downplaying it and telling her, and the NGOs, to shut up lest the name of the country be maligned. As if it's not maligned already.
If a hundred people of a minority are killed, the best these same 'honourable' brothers can do is pay lip service. And some can't even be bothered to do that. However, give the molvies and their supporters a US bone and they'll bite right away.

No offense Faris bhai, but weren't you the one agreeing with Deweena, when discussing gunning down the fanatics who murdered the poor fakir in Bahwalpur recently, because, according to him, murder is not the answer to murder?
Now here you are advocating for death by torture? I don't understand the duplicity here. You seem to give the extremist murderers a pass, but this guy, who lets face it, we don't know all the facts about, deserves to die by being buried alive? Have you ever been buried alive? I can imagine its not a nice way to die... What happened to compassion in Islam?
Afridis only "crime" is that he did exactly what his govt has been doing the entire time. He did what the govt promised it would do itself. So who did he betray? OBL?
The hypocrisy of the Pak govt is appalling.
The real tragedy in all this is that the CIAs shenanigans have resulted in making it that much more difficult to conduct real Anti-Polio campaigns. Where before the mullahs claiming it was all just a conspiracy were looked at as quake, the now appear vindicated. The crime that was committed was on the people of Pakistan by the CIA, who have ensured that thousands of children will not receive the anti polio drops.

Not that I'm in favour of the exchange or anything but you are supposed to be the educated people who turn a blind eye to the abuse (confirmed by the Pentagon) that the woman was subjected to while in custody. She was detained naked with male prisoners, humiliated, raped repeatedly by several men at a time, tortured, forced to walk over the Quran, and whatnot.
How much of this did you hear about in the press that you're so adamant to defend? What did the Obama administration and the very educated public had to say about the abuse? Absolutely nothing as far as I know. And then you wonder why the nut cases have a problem with the hypocrisy.
You sound like a typical foreigner who doesn't know a thing about Pakistan and related issues other than what the media tells you. So you, my friend, have a lot of reading to do. Perhaps start off by reading up on the state-sponsored terrorism of your beloved countries, that might get you off the high horse.
When he was recruited by the CIA, being a Pakistani, should he have said yes, or no?
ISI collaborates with CIA on an official level. A random person working unofficially for a foreign spy service is criminal in any country of the world, regardless of whether he helped find OBL or not. And if/when he did have information regarding OBL, he should have passed it on to Pak security forces, rather than a foreign one. Now if we argue that we dont ‘trust’ our security apparatus, then why not just invite the US to take over and have them run our army, government and public utilities as well?
And lets not forget the fake polio scheme, which has resulted in a large swath of the north west being deprived of vaccines now.
The reason being cited for Afridi’s jailing is just a cover, as the Pak government does not want to ‘argue’ with the US on this, which is why they have come up with the ‘links to banned outfits’ reasoning. Afridi is in jail because of treason, and rightfully so.
The Bannu jailbreak was done by the taliban to get their comrades released. The taliban would gladly release Afridi, not to help him escape, but to kill him.
All of the evidence presented in her case has been circumstantial, which is why all the noise about her innocence. Ideally, she should have been exchanged for Raymond Davis, if at all, but they chose to give him away for free.
