dowry

wat to buy in your dowry if you are getting married in pakistan not in a joint system

Re: dowry

start with your bedroom set , kitchen necessities , bathroom items , washing machine , iron & iron stand , fridge , TV , bed sheets etc the list can go on.

Just think abt the things u'll be needing in everyday life. Stay in your budget don't get into unnecessary debt.

I really wish one day the groom starts buying all these things instead of the bride.

Re: dowry

Thankyou diamond 321
I have just started with buying bedding but dont know how many things i nedd...like how many single, double bedsheets are required, how many bed spreads and comforters are required ...my sister is married but when i see her list of items i think that it is too much

by the way my fiance says dont buy anything but i cant do this

Buy 5-6 bed sheets , 3-4 spread sheets , if u r buying quilt then buy 3-4 quilt covers too. I also bought an extra pair of pillows. Buy one nice bedsheet for your wedding day too.

For your 1st day in the house make a small bag , I did and it really helped. Keep a bath towel , hair brush , tooth brush , tooth paste , makeup remover , Livon for hairs in it . Becuase next day when u'll wake up u 'll have loads of makeup to remove from ur face and your hairs will require much work on it due to back combing and hair sprays. Luckily sabs didnt do back combing on me but otherwise its a nightmare to straighten the back combed hairs.

I am stressing on 1st day because as soon as u'll wake up your family will bring the nashta and u'll have to be ready to go back to your mother's place. So keep everything ready.

Buy one dinner set or take home one dinner set . I bought 3 dinner sets but took only one dinner set with me and I am so glad i did that . You won't be needing many plates and all since its u and ur hubby.

Do buy a microwave for urself its a big help. Buy one non stick cooking utensils set it will be enuf for u both. Cutlery and knives set. A couple of kitchen towels and napkins.Buy some plastic baskets to keep washed dishes and all.

Re: dowry

Why not to buy these things with your Hubby once you get married? Wouldn't it be more fun choosing home items together? :)

Re: dowry

if your soon to be hubby say don't buy anyting....then don't......

i dont know what up with girls who buy stuff for dowry even when they guy side says there is no need........ why are you guys sentimental about what will poeple say...

Plus i am very picky when it comes to decorating my home (yes that includes the kitchen) i wana have good decoration items, crockery...ooh i love royal dulton, utensils and otherhouse hold stuff.......

what if the girl buys stuff and it dosen't go with the guys taste?

Re: dowry

its not the matter what people say...I wanna buy everything of my choice and guys are nothing to do with bedsheets etc...i wanna go to my complete home...i know after marriage it will be difficult to gather such things

Re: dowry

Yep ! after marriage enjoy your time with your hubby . You can not go for shopping immediately after wedding . Shopping for dowry is a big headache , save your time . Buy what u need now and of your OWN choice and spend your time then relaxing and enjoying your married life.

But if u can go for shopping with hubby before wedding it would be nice. But then again I would suggest you buying of your OWN CHOICE. Don't get into unnecessary discusions with hubby before wedding and let me be realistic it's your money that u r speding so spend it the way u want ! Good Luck :)

Re: dowry

thankyou diamond321
your suggestions are really mature....my wedding is expected after 6 months n i have started buying things like watever attracts me i buy it according to my need

Re: dowry

what abt those brides who gonna settle in abroad?

Re: dowry

make a trip to Gul-Ahmed (i went in Feb and got sheets 70% off-so look for sales) - they have amazing bedsheets with pillow cases - get 3 of those, get ONE comforter as storage is usually a problem and if its only the 2 of u then ull only need one.. buy more when u need more dont overstock if its not necessary - get fitted sheets aswell - usually u can get comforter sets with fitted sheets and shams etc so that shud be ok - if you want to color co-ordinate alot of people these days get the bedroom curtains made and then do the decor according to the color palatte that they have -
Bathroom ka stuff such as towels etc
kitchen ka stuff such as pateele, crockery, glasses, cups, chamche waghaira. Make sure you get ur food processors and blenders too - you'll prlly need a toaster as well -
dont buy anything that you know you can buy later on - thats why stick to the bare necessities and work ur way up from there - since ull be having tonz of dawats etc just have one dinner set handy with cups and glasses and make sure theyre always ready incase someone decides to pop over for chai etc!

for brides settling abroad it really depends.. like when i moved to my in-laws my parents just gave me the Bedroom set for the room i was in - and then when i moved out they gave me the bare necessities such as kitchen starters etc but i mostly bought everything - so it totally depends.. most of my moms friends only gave kitchen ka samaan (did not include appliances since theyre all included in the apartments/houses), and bedroom sets (bed, dresser, chest, side tables) to their daughters. on the other hand when my devarani moved from pakistan her parents gave her a bedset there but sent all the crockery etc here to the USA!

man0 I'd say go through ur parents house one room at a time and see what u might need -
