u would support it coz u get 50 ls in dowry. As per Hindu civil law girls have equal share in fathers property. In kerala hindus and muslims give equal share in property, while christians(mostly catholics) give dowry and do not share the property.
i know you will say this, 50 is very less man, we spend around 10-15 only on marriage expenses, but mine is a love marriage, we know each other from age 12

Generalisation aside.during my stay in tirupati and studying with different AP people dowry is kinda prestige issue here-like naidu's reddys etc.heck even Andhraists whos son is in usa or uk (even if on study visa) seeks lot of money here in dowry.Anyway even girls side r getting educated when they ask boys parents abt his status in us or if he has settled job even if he is on h1b they make sure he is not laid off in usa then only they marry their girls.and our north side (UP,bihar,mp,rajasthan) is the region where lot of dowry deaths occur.may be these states r poorly educated.recently Arjun singh's(education minister ) daughter-in-law filed dowry case against him.

only solution i see is that girl's side must flatly refuse the dowry demand and must report it to police.and boys must insist upon their parents for not demanding dowry.
