Dowry - India's disgrace

Re: Dowry - India's disgrace

Cultures may be evolving but people do not "eliminate negative elements of their culture and preserve the better aspects" just because of a law, or some holier than thou commentary. If I am wrong, then prove it?

Look at Pakistan: You have people still proudly announcing their "caste" while being Muslim in name, yet Indian culturally. While their counterparts reject Pakistan's heritage and have adopted extremist Islamic tendencies which involve violence against fellow Muslims. You cannot just praise the "moderate-sufi" Islam of Pakistanis belonging to the "castes' without accepting the fact that culturally they are more Indian influenced. Similarly you can't uphold the piety and discipline of an extremist Muslim Pakistani and reject their violent tendencies.

I am living in reality. There is no such thing as a perfect culture. Sure cultures may react to modernity, but they will always carry over negative aspects. You have got to be under some sad illusion to believe that saying dowry is bad on some random message board will influence or change a culture that is being followed by millions if not billions.
