Chief, Dowry is part of the culture. Indian culture, like any other culture has good and bad aspects. You can't say that respecting ones elders, obtaining education must preserved while dowry should go away. They are all components of a culture.
My family comes from Western part of Pakistan, we have a different culture than India/majority of Pakistan and we are mocked for its "outdated" concepts. Yet I embrace it all because it is a part of my identity.
Culture, religion and nationality are important codifiers of community - you may not agree with it all but they give you an identity.
I can't believe I'm reading this BS.
Cultures need to change and evolve.
Negative elements of any culture need to be eliminated.
Maybe we can't eradicate them by posting messages on a BB but it's our respobsility to not condone them and at least recognise them as wrong and condemn them.
I hate backward people who will stubbornly stick to their outdated ways despite knowing they are fcuked up, every society changes with time and we need to as well... There is nothing shameful about giving up bad things, I've never understood that mentality of some jaahil people..
If something shameful is part of our identity then it needs to go, if we can't eradicate it atleast we can oppose it... Just because something has been a part of our culture for so long doesn't mean we have to be proud of it.
I've met people who are like a bunch of donkeys, stubbornly stuck tot heir outdated and uncivilised ways because "it's their identity and culture", then they have the cheek to blame other ethnciities for their backwardness.
