Do any of you have any experience in working on downview glass top computer desks? I have seen them at a few places. The design looks interesting. Not sure if they are actually comfortable to work on, for extended periods of time.
yes, b/c if u gonna be putting a lot of time on a computer then ur neck will get affected by it. Because u r looking down in one same direction and position constantly, so when u get done with ur work and try to sit straight up, it hurts
I've worked on a similar configuration desk at a university once. Since it was a public access terminal it was shaped more like an arcade game console but the monitor was placed pretty much as in the desk above. Its okay for really short periods (~2-5 minutes) but not comfortable at all for more than that. I think the point there was that people dont get comfy on the terminal.. just get what they want and leave.
If you want something stylish and space saving why not get a wall mounted LCD screen?
We used to have a classroom setup in our office with these type of desks. Most students complained of neck strain and asked to put the monitor up on top. So we ended up chaning the entire configuration and got away from using these desks.
You should consider using flat screen monitor to save on desk space.
This is an accident waiting to happen! I have to do risk assessments for my staff who all use the computer for more than an hour a day, and this would cripple someone! The screen must be at eye level and the keyboard should be placed in a position where your arms and wrsits are supported, with desk and maybe wrist cushions. Would strongly advise looking further into this before buying.
Thanks all. Based on valuable advice and personal experiences, downview glass top computer desk idea is now dropped. Search goes on.
By the way, the computer already has 17" LCD monitor. So the footprint of the computer/monitor is not the issue, but the desk itself. I'd rather not mount it on the wall, as that will be a little too permanent for my taste. I like to keep furniture a bit modular. Times change. Moods change.
