Douchbags (aka men) should stay out of this thread. 
Do these things really kill off all microbial growth from the vagina - including natural bacteria? Wouldn’t that make douche’s pretty harmful for a female? And I could never understand their exact usage - do women use it after having sex, or can it just be used generally anytime, or is it meant to be used after menstruation.

PCG - there is a bateria/yeast balance that every woman has, if you douche too often it can lead to severe yeast or bacterial infections because it disturbs the balance you naturally have. There is really no reason to do this at all. Your body is naturally healthy and douching is a moneymaker for someone that can be potentially harmful to women. Once in a while is ok, prolonged use is not. Perfumed douche can be especially harmful (or they wouldn't have the warnings on the box).
I cannot think of one medical reason to do this, consult a doctor and he/she will tell you the same thing. It is a mental placebo for people who believe they should be fresh that way... (couldn't think of any other way to put this)....
I could go into the mysogynistic roots of the belief that douching is needed (ie anything sexual on or pertaining to a woman is dirty and therefore needs to be cleaned at all times) but too tired :)

How common are yeast and vaginal infections in desi women? I know this isn't related but I keep seeing those advertisements in bathrooms with cottage cheese, vagina, normal, pretty common in one sentence. In contrast, I haven't heard of any desi girls or women with this problem. Istanja anyone?

Vaginal infections are common among women in general - dunno what the desi stat is on that, even if there is one.
I used to get them frequently for a span of 2 years - I dunno why. But then it stopped.

Thrush really isnt related to poor hygeine. Its more due to the imbalance of the bacteria in the vagina.
Yeast infections are more stress related then not washing yourself down there.
Our bodies have their own way of cleaning themselves from the inside there is no need to shove chemicals inside and cause harm.
Desi women dont discuss yeast infections cause they dont discuss such things in public, doesnt mean they dont get it.

Circumcision enormously reduces the risk of penile fungus, and prostrate cancer will affect us lot at the age when you lot are getting breast cancer in addition to still having your icky gross freaky yeast and bacterial infections.

No, I’m glad I am a girl, and not a guy. Even if it means putting up with some yeast and bacteria.
