Double Trouble

So I went to donate blood recently… got rejected !! My Blood Count was too low… as in the Hemoglobin level is only at 8.3. It should be 12 for women.

The nurse got a shock and said I need blood instead. She asked me what kind of food I was intaking and promptly told me to get checked at a clinic and do a complete overhaul of my food intake. Should have seen it comin… I am tired, developed slight dark circles, hair loss ( I thought it had something to do with turning 30) and have had unusual craving for chalk and sand. Yea I know, creepy, but it’s quite common it seems.

And now I find out that I have too much uric acid in my blood. Its causing my joints ( right thumb and right knee ) to swell up and its painful.

I have only got a blood test done. Will be going to see a doc next week.

Now I am a veg, but I eat a lot of junk instead of a full on proper veg meal consisting of roti, sabzi, daal, chawal etc. I drink a LOT of fizzy drinks. Occasional alcohol ( once or twice a month). Never eat breakfast.

Hmmm… now that I am writing it down , it doesn’t seems to healthy.

Anyone else suffering from either of these two ?? Does eating Iron tablets help ?? To what percentage ??

For the uric acid : its says not to eat lentils, tomatoes and a whole lot of other veggies. Erm .. then wht should I eat ??

Re: Double Trouble

For the uric acid - Hyrdration is the key.

For the Iron as you are vege - lots and lots of green veges and also tablets.

Re: Double Trouble

^ thankx inspiron... I had a feeling u'd be the one to reply. GS resident Doc !!

What kind of Doctor should I be seeing to get a professional opinion. Just a GP ??

Re: Double Trouble

yes a GP should be able to give you sufficient advice , they more do more blood tests to confirm things. But a GP is fine :)

Re: Double Trouble

You should also see a dietitian once you see the GP.

Re: Double Trouble

Yes your GP should refer you to a dietician if he doesnt then ask him to! they have even more knowledge than Doctors in terms of food etc!
