Double Standards

hmmm…u guys must be wondering…what is this topic doing in Arts, Culture and Heritage? Double standards exist in all societies, in all cultures…well, i am wondering about the double standards prevailent in our culture…there are so many…the most obvious one being, guys are can do whatever they like (e.g. stay out late), while girls have certain restirctions on them (just opposite of that example stated above, i.e. can’t stay out late)…

i was having this discussion with a friend, and according to her, sometimes these double standards are necessary…that simply boggles me…i was unable to continue the discussion due to time constraints, so i thought i’d ask u guys…what’s ur take on this?? are they “important” as she said they were, or are they just something we have come to accept in our culture as “the appropriate behaviour” for ppl (girls in this case)…

waiting to hear from u guys

Adaab arz hay! :p

hmmm, u got a very intelligent, smart, and a brilliant friend i must say Desi ;) heeehaaahoohaehehehe
anyways, i agree with her! :) Some of the double standards in our society are necessary, i might get beaten up for saying this but this is just my opinion! I know every where around the world, women are fighting for equal rights, and here i am saying that we need some of the double standards well lemme explain why i think so..

hmmm, lets take ur example for instance, when u say that desi parents don't let girls stay out late or they aren't allowed to go to certain places while the guyz are let loose and they do whatever they please, that's not completely fair but Islam (don't kill me for brining religion in plz) says that a woman isn't allowed to go out unless she is with a mehram, and it's only for her benefit!! there are a lot of whackos out there, and the parents need to protect their daughters...
basically the double standards (only a FEW, definitely NOT ALL) teach the girlz their values, it teaches them sharm-o-hayaa so to speak...no matter how much women want to be equal to men (well we r) but we can't really be the same as them...
women are physically weaker than men, little girlz need their parents to watch out for them and there the double standards get created...
so D.S are sometimes there to gaurd us from the dangers which a girl might not be able to deal with alone

ok ok so it's a dumb reply but i tried... ;)
