Double Babbling

Salaam

I have a 9 month old son MashaAllah who gets into all sorts of mischief. However I am starting to worry a bit that hes not really double babbling. He doesn’t say mama or dada yet. The very occasional hiya but thats it. I think his hearing is fine, as when I whisper to call his dad (so that emaaz doesn’t turn round) he turns round before his dad.

Should I be worried?

Thanks

Re: Double Babbling

ukwali, 9 months is still very young. The general guidelines for a 1 year old is that they have 3 to 10 words. If you're concerned, you can have his pediatrician check him out and/or have him evaluated by a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).

If you live in a western country, you can have this eval done for free and if its determined that theres a delay then speech therapy would be provided, also free of charge and at your home (if thats easiest for you)

But really, it sounds like your boy is doing just fine and is well within the guidelines. If you google about "speech milestones", you can get more info about ages and abilities.

Re: Double Babbling

ukwali theres no need to worry at 9months, every child is different and develop at their own pace, you will probably have other mums saying all sorts to you...just ignore it.

if you want him to be a confident talker, talk to him about things around him, when you feed him point out the spoon, plate, cup etc, do the same while dressing him.
Also it helps to share books with a child, reading encourages a child to communicate and gives you quality bonding time.
