Dont you girls feel .....?

Don’t you girls feel that parlous/saloons like Allenora, Madeeha, New Look, Depilex etc. end up giving the same look to each bride. The othjer day i went to Madeehas and saw 4 of their albums on the counter. I noticed that every bride had the same kind of eye makeup - all they did was change colours with respect to the dress.

Start noticing it, you will feel a lot of motony. The style of make up application, the colours used, the overall look. I am yet to see a bride from them who looks totally different, fresh from their typical look and just beautiful too! All the brides do look pretty but all i am saying is that they look same.

DO you have any recommendations for any makeup artist in Lahore who can give you a completely different look but still make you look awesome?

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

Hey Girls,

I totally understand what you are talking about. My wedding is InshAllah in 24 days and I went to many makeup artists and salons to look at albums. At times I just wanted to give up but, I finally chose Ather Shezad..I am having a daytime wedding and I do not want to look caked up or overdone eye makeup. Anyhow, I thought maybe I was just being picky because I can't decide from the albums if the makeup is good or not. I mean if you look at an album, it can be of models and brides who are photo-shopped and etc. or it can also be the magic of a photographer. Therefore, my method of choosing a makeup artist was by going to each salon and asking them if I can see the day they have a bride that's getting ready by them. So, I did this with the following salons:

Depilex YBlock (Moon)--As soon as I got there, I was asked by him if I had any referral. I said no I came from America and was told by the lady at the front desk about him. He didn't pay much attention to me and was so polite to this other girl who was there by some actress's referral. There bride's makeup was nothing special. She was very pasty and pale. Then he told me to leave because she's getting nervous. I understand that a bride gets nervous but, he could've said it in a better manner. Moon's rudeness was a turn off for me. I don't need to deal with someone like that on my special day.

Bubloo- He was so sweet. Very polite. He personally came outside the door and told me to come in. He showed the bride and even explained to me that her look is different because she's wearing black. I didn't know if it was the bride or what but, Her makeup made her look like a ghost. She had way too much blush on. It was a Very Dramatic look. He knew I didn't like it and asked me what color I'd be wearing so he can show me a bride in that color. I felt bad I never went back but, I wasn't that interested.

Mariam Khawaja- I liked the fact that all her employees were willing to assist. Her albums displayed her own wedding and valima pics which were very nice. She did her own makeup on the wedding. According to the albums, I was convinced to stick with her. She gives the brides a very soft natural look. I didn't choose her because I wasn't able to see a bride by her but, I am sure she does a great job. Also, she wanted me to be there by 8:30 am in order to be out of there by 12pm. The package offered to me was 25000 rupees including services and 5000 rupees extra because it was a daytime wedding.

Ather Shezad- I chose them because the staff is very friendly. They don't hesitate to give information or guidance. I went to them about 3-4 times before confirming them so you can imagine how obsessed I was with getting a good makeup artist. The front desk ladies are so professional. They showed me pics on the computer because the physical album was being redone. Of course knowing me, I wasn't convinced so I asked to see brides. I saw about 4-5 brides on various days. All their makeup was so well done whether it was done by Ather or his assistants. I was able to see the girls in their natural element (no makeup) and after the makeup..I like the fact that face color wasn't changed and the look isn't too dramatic. It looks elegant but yet natural.
P.S. I saw Sundas Manan getting ready by Ather in her pjs the day of her wedding. I Have Seen the pics and her without makeup. Ather did an amazing job...

Some private(not popular) makeup artists: showed me wedding videos and albums--didn't choose because they weren't professional and makeup was like the golden days..lol

My purpose here was just to help make things easier for the brides-to-be not to pass any judgements or be criticized for my OPINIONS which I have the right to have as a human being:)

Cheers & Best Wishes For All
Remember me in your duas

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

sorry for the long novel;)

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

thanks so much for this!
can you please tell me what non-popular mua's you went to but didn't like?

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

I hate Depilex, esp the one in Y-block.....had an awful awful experience there and their bridal makeup always looked blah in pix.

And anyways, why should you care if you look the "same", as long as you're happy with teh service and you look good...

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

@ xlilfati hi...can you tell me athar charges??i will also day bride nd my color will be red nd i also want soft natural luk.so plz tell me their packages nd contact details plz,am nt living in lhr but i will visit in january inshallah thn again for my barat function.i will wait for ur reply..

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

@mickeymouse: I'm Sorry but, I can't state the MUAS..I don't want to name someone and ruin their rep. They work out of their home so that was another reason I didn't like them. It was just referrals made by people I knew.

@Maha: It really depends what package you choose at Ather's and who you want your makeup done by. If you want Ather to do your makeup he charges 65Krupees-$764
Senior artist's makeup and eyes by Ather=55K rupees
Makeup by Ather's assistant: 25K rupees
All the makeup packages include dupatta setting, hairstyle, nail paint
If you are a daytime bride like me you can be charged from 5000-10000 rupees extra because they don't open till 10am and they would have to pay the staff extra to come in and etc.
I got the Bridal Package as well=6K rupees:including facial, polisher,manicure/pedicure, threading and full body wax

Best of Luck. Hope this helped.

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

for my cousin's wedding day she got ready at ather shahzad's and karma models were preparing for a shoot, everyone looked great. he did a wonderful job not makinh my cousin look overdone and found creative ways to blend her colors (orange, light green and red) into her dress. basma was very nice and polite she does a great job making sure clients are taken care of. I don't speak urdu so while i was getting my manicure she kept checking in on me and that was really nice. i had the most relaxing foot massage ever it was heavenly! I don't like that they didn't have many colors to chose from at the time (june) but i understand now they carry opi polishes, and i hope they use a top coat. Mine didn't have a top coat and by the valima i already had chips and no nailpolish to fix it. :( umm but my hair was a crap job they rushed it, i expressed my concern about the backcombing not being high enough and they pinned it into place and i still said this isn't going to hold but they kinda rushed me out. the way they curled the ends of my hair was by taking small roller brushes and rolling it up and blow drying high and then pulling it out after some time. which hurt, ripped hair out from my head and created a poofy mess...i have pics i can show yall privately while i was at the salon (iman ali is in the background). so for hair and nails be a bit hesitant but for my cousin's hairstyle they rolled it with cotton and it held all night long and she had a very heavy dupatta so i am glad they got that right.

i know she did madeeha's for the mendhi and allenora i think for the valima of all the looks i prefer her wedding day but my parents really like the fresh look they gave her on her mehndi. however i remember her saying one of those salons was very rude, didn't see her right away kept her waiting for hours which was not the case at ather shahzad. the few minutes i was waiting everyone gave me juices or bottled water and was very kind and welcoming. Also one salon announced that she had bad skin which she didn't so it was really tacky the way they handled her as a well paying client.

Re: Dont you girls feel .....?

my guess is that'll be alle'nora :-P
