dont wear contacts!!

those who wear contact lenses, remove them when you have or attend a BBQ party or whatsoever that got to do with flames… I heard a horrible true story about contact lenses… It happened to a 21 year old guy , he wore a pair of contact lenses during a barbecue party. While, he was barbecuing, he stared at the fire charcoals.

After a few seconds, he started to scream for help and moved rapidly,
jumping up and down. No one in the party knew why… When he arrived at the Hospital, the doctor said he’ll be blind permanently courtesy of the
contact lenses that he had worn. Contact lenses are made by plastics,
and the heat from the charcoal melted his contact lenses. So, tell all your
friends… DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES WHERE OVERHEAT AND FLAMES ARE CONCERNED

    :frowning:

Never wore them and NOW NEVER WILL :frowning:

 prementatly blind

my eyes r perfect… no need for contacts

Are you sure this isn't another urban myth? I've worn contacts for the past 5 years and have never come across this happening to anyone, nor has my optician ever warned me about not staring at hot fires. Also the guy must've been starting at the coals pretty closely and for quite a while if they actually melted.

my brother wears contact lenses but i SOMETIMES wear glasses.......only at functions cuz i am far sided and i have to wear them to see the girls clearly :p

oh b.s. i've been making stuff on bbq's and camp fires, nothing of the sort has happened to me.

Thankyou for the concern monasha, but you have to be really staring in the fire to melt your contacts. And the degree of heat that is required to melt your contacts is uncomfortable enough for anyone to take a step back away from the grill (long before the contacts reach melting point).

I have been to plenty bbq's and even cooked tons of chapli kabaabs wearing my contacts (theres pictures to prove it :p).

The worst that did happen to me with contacts was during my pizza delivery days the summer after high school. It got really really hot outside, so hot that the liquid solution in one of my lenses dried out and the lens popped out and fell on my palm. Shukar haiy Allah ka the lens in the other eye was intact and hence i was able to drive back home safely with one eye.

Disco sweety you can start thinking about wearing them now :) I doubt UK's sunless weather poses much threat to contact lens wearers :p

this duck poo just made me laugh…

plz move the thread to the jokes area :rotfl:

Monasha, I wear contact lenses pretty regularly when I’m not at home, so your story gives me pause. Are you sure that it isn’t just an urban legend??? I’ve been around plenty of flames during bbqs and (knock on wood) I’ve been fine. Weird story though!

seriously???i wear contacts n cook n stuff......

guys...
i seriously wish this would be a myth but since the person who told me this is my own eye specialist...so i have to believe this is not a hoax.
DR.Mukhtaar is a very famous eye specialist of pakistan (im sure guppies in pak or karachi have heard of him)
i had gone to him bcoz of my sinusitis effecting my eye sight and asked him if it wud be okay to start wearing contacts now, and thats when he told me this.

so presently im sticking to my glasses and shared this stuff with u ppl here

BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!!

Contact lenses are made of PMMA (poly methyle something), a quick search on the web says that the melting point of PMMA is 160 deg C (320F). Even if its 100deg C for contact lenses, the person will feel heat way before the lenses melt (Try putting a finger in boiling water).

maybe DR.Mukhtaar needs a refresher course.

So its safe to put my lenses in again? Phew!!

Why wasn't he wearing sunglasses?

I'm betting that the guys contact lenses were made outta something OTHER than PMMA after all it IS Pakistan!

maybe Dr. Mukhtar wants u to have laser eye surgery done
at his clinic :hehe:

oh yeah, everyone who's wearing contact lenses, try to stay away from mod (dhoop) and try not to stare directly :p warna jal jaao gey:(

seems like a made up story. the melting point of soft contacts is already listed, very few ppl wear the hard contacts these days and even they dont "melt" just by looking at coals.

as someone noted , the temprateure to melt these things is so high that one would feel the heat.

The only possibility is that the dude was right over the fire and some sudden flare up due to grease etc hit his eye. which would have messed him up even if he had no lenses on.

Otherwise, it looks lame.

monasha,

I got this as a forward long back! are u sure its ur writing or actual acoount? if u had receive as a forward please mention before pasting that its a forward and not ur own account..

degas who knows maybe dr mukhtar is behind that forward email
