would anyone here ever think about donating an organ?
say a family member needed a kidney, would you be willing to offer one of yours?..after all, you only need the one
Why should minorities be particularly concerned about organ donation?
Some diseases of the kidney, heart, lung, pancreas and liver are found more frequently in racial and ethnic minority populations than in the general population. For example, African Americans, Asian and Pacific Islanders and Hispanics are three times more likely to suffer from end-stage renal disease than Whites. Native Americans are four times more likely than Whites to suffer from diabetes. Some of these diseases are best treated through transplantation; others can only be treated through transplantation.
Successful transplantation often is enhanced by the matching of organs between members of the same ethnic and racial group. For example, any patient is less likely to reject a kidney if it is donated by an individual who is genetically similar. Generally, people are genetically more similar to people of their own ethnicity or race than to people of other races. Therefore, a shortage of organs donated by minorities can contribute to death and longer waiting periods for transplants for minorities.
i dont know how to do the whole hyperlinking the source thing, if thats what u call it…sorry

Its allowed to donate while you're living. For example some of which there are two organs, we can live on one.
However after the death, I dont think you're allowed to cut up the body and remove organs.

even if it means saving someones life? i remember watching an islamic viewpoint on kidney donations whilst one is alive, but im not so sure about after death.
organ donation/transplant waghaira is permisible in islam but under certain cricumstances... i would personally if required to in the future donate a organ from my body to my family, if their is no alternative substitute. donating of organ after a person's death is islam is forbidden in shariat. some ppl leave a will {wasiyaat} kai jee donate my organ's after my death to the needy ya falaan falaan banda et cetera that is what is forbidden for a muslim + organs' can't be sold that is also not allowed.. if only our brothers and sisters in gujranwala can understand this! quite a biggie there
I would donate, relative or not-- if out of the thousand chances that my tissues actually are the perfect match for a recipient in need of his/her life.
As for donating after ur dead, I had a debate with my dad once. I wanted him to sign the back of my driver's license so that incase I died, my eyes could be donated. He disagreed and said that it is forbidden in Islam to donate organs after death. I still don't get teh theory behind this.
I know this thread is really old, but something has come up and I need more opinions. Better still, I would like to know if anybody in the UK knows of any sort of charity/organisation thing set up specifically for Kidney donations in the Asian community.
I can't really go into too many details, but basically I need to find an Asian kidney doner, and I have no idea how and I don't just mean random people from god knows where, I mean a proper legit organistion thing. They have to be Asian as there would be a better chance of finding a match.
