Don’t Hate Other Religions!

Re: Don’t Hate Other Religions!

anyways coming back to the topic.
as a muslim you have to remember haqooq al iaad, i.e. rights of the poeple.
its not ight of the muslims, but rights of the people.
and respect is just one of the basic rights.

so, whether one believes that the other is following a wrong faith or what nots, u have to respect the person.

Re: Don’t Hate Other Religions!

I know this thread has kinda derailed from the title (part of it clearly because the last para of the first post grabbed everyone's attention - and mostly in the wrong way), however here my little nugget on this topic.

While I am all for inter-faith dialogue and good relations with people of other faiths, this new found fab of brand-ing everyone under the umbrella of "Followers of Abrahamic Faith" to create mass love between Muslims-Christians-Jews is something I find hard to accept. So while Muslims believe Moses (AS) and Christ (AS) are prophets of God and brought the message of the Creator, with the arrival of Muhammad (PBUH), muslims got a new sharia and the old rules no longer apply to those who embrace the message of Islam. As an example, while I realize the Christ gave the guidance of turning the other cheek, I don't believe muslims need to comply with that since we have our own sharia that implores us to forgive, or failing that, do not fall to excesses and and an-eye-for-an-eye. That, by no means imply I am not for greater understanding of various Abrahamic faiths; just that don't expect any of the faiths to blur the boundaries too much.

Re: Don’t Hate Other Religions!

^Isn't that about the same? Both religions teach forgiveness and respect. It is only some of the followers of the religions who forget to follow these most important aspects of the faiths.

We all need to be like Finland. Whoever thinks of hurting a Finn? And whoever is worried about being hurt by a Finn? Nobody. They have better things to do, like fishing.

Re: Don’t Hate Other Religions!

Our Islam never teaches us to hate other religons. If few so called religious scholars teach otherwise than partly it is their fault and partly this is **OUR **fault.
HOW ?!?! Let me know if their is any criteria set by the government for the selection of an Imam of a masjid. ANY entry TESTS ? ANY interviews ?? Any LAWs ?? If any law exisits, than are they implemented properly ??

Oh..and how much is the competition for any such post. VERY less! WHY ?? because non of the parents in the present age wants their children to join the university for becoming a religious scholar because every one thinks they know religion themselves very well and there is no such need of going to a good religious scholar for guidence,

BUT there is a need of going to dentist when we have a tooth ache, WHY not read the books yourself and take out your tooth your self. Why not make your own clothers instead of going to a tailor. Why not learn to mend your shoes instead of going to cobbler....

The only "Maskeen" left is a religon which everyone can learn by oneself and anyone can declare himself a religious scholar without any voting, any competition, any oppositon or any selection criteria!

AND Then we all have the "Freedom of expression" to say alot of bad words (and even abusive words) to those so called mullahs, during any discussion among our friends, as if our criticizm is going to bring a "Great Revolution"

Re: Don’t Hate Other Religions!

Here is my understanding, and this was something I had posted on another forum as an answer so might as well post it here too:

Question: In Surah 5:51, a translation says this:

يأيها الذين ءامنوا لا تتخذوا اليهود والنصرى أولياء بعضهم أولياء بعض ومن يتولهم منكم فإنه منهم إن الله لا يهدي القوم الظلمين
O you who believe, do not take the Jews and the Nazarenes as allies, for they are allies to one another; and whoever takes them as such from amongst you is one of them. God does not guide the wicked people.

Is this translation, correct? In what context is it speaking of? Everday life? War? What?

Answer: It would be worthwhile stating here that the word Auuliyaa does not mean "friend" or "ally" but "protector" or "leader"

It is saying that it is YOUR responsibility to protect your way of life... do not expect from other communities or people who do not believe in what you believe that they will safeguard the system of God. It is a logical and pragmatic statement, not a sentimental one.

Same thing has been said in 9:23
يأيها الذين ءامنوا لا تتخذوا ءاباءكم وإخونكم أولياء إن استحبوا الكفر على الإيمن ومن يتولهم منكم فأولئك هم الظلمون
O ye who believe! take not for protectors your fathers and your brothers if they love infidelity above faith; if any of you do so, they do wrong.

It is not asking you to stay away from Jews and Christians (and people who believe in other systems,) but to appreciate the fact that they believe in a different ideology... this appreciation will help you to mingle better and at the same time help you in preserving what you believe in.

*All religions are same. They teach you reach one God. Some are elevators while others are staircases, slides or launchpads.:) *
