There is a war going out there, but the only casualties are jobs and money… Google and Microsoft are going head to head. Google’s homepage has been my startpage since day one, but now, Microsoft is fighting back with its own homepage called Live.
Now besides the fact of having a great name, Microsoft’s Live Homepage (and other services soon to come) will surely capture an insane amount of Microsoft based users. Having the ability to integrate RSS feeds, your Hotmail account, Windows Live Safety Center, Windows Live Favorites, Windows Live Messenger and a whole lot more into a start page, they are sure to attract another user base. Right now, when I open up my Firefox, my startpage is no longer Google; instead, it’s two pages: google.com/ig and live.com.
The only question I ask myself now is: 'Too little too late?".
With Google dominating the search engine market with an algorithm that gets SEO (search engine optimization) experts nautious, will they be the final choice of end users? Or will Microsofts’s attempt to “get back in the game” be the downfall of Google?
All I am sure of at the end of the day is that healthy competition between these two giants is a good thing for us because we get to make the final decision based on what they have to offer.
Now come to think of it, that’s what’s happening with digg and shoutwire…
