Kiranjit Ahluwalia from Punjab, India married and residing in UK convicted for ‘murder crime’, was honored in 2001 at the first Asian Women Awards for helping to bring to light a subject that had been kept behind closed doors. Ultimately, Ahluwalia’s struggle with the help of others raised awareness of domestic violence in families internationally and for those non-English speaking immigrants to Western countries, as well as changing the laws for domestic abuse victims in the United Kingdom.
Later on UK amended their laws and by changing the definition of the word ‘provocation’ in cases of battered women, as to reclassify her crime as manslaughter instead of murder.
Lastly she was honoured by Mr. Tony Blair.
We read/see news about domestic abuses in Pakistan and the case goes on for many years without resolve of final verdict. Do anyone know/read/heard such case where Pakistan changed their law and honoured any Pakistani woman within Pakistan or outside in any other country?
