Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

Most days I try to do Zikr at all times … more or less reciting names of Allah or short dua’s … Specially when I am on and about for outdoor tasks ..

Though I try to concentrate hard on my zikr but every now and then attention might just slip away .. so while I am still reciting the zikr, my mind is wandering else where …

Someone told me that one of the conditions to do Zikr is to sit peacefully and concentrate otherwise there is no point doing the Zikr :konfused:

Is that the case?

Re: Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

not at all

Re: Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

Peace Chicken Biryani

With Dzikr there are two main types ... with awrad/wird then this must be done in the way with full intent and focus. However when you are doing general dzikr, then it is still good to do this even if you lapse from concentrating - rather one of the symptoms of the "zakir" (one who does much dzikr) is that they have to try hard to stop themselves from it ....

As in the famous accounts of Sahabah going in to do their call of nature with a stone in their mouths to prevent their tongues from automatically reciting the Names of Allah .... so this is enough evidence to say that even if you are absentminded in dzikr it is still common and good - dzikr is done with the limbs, with the mind and then with the heart. Doing, Thinking and Feeling are the progressive forms and the beauty of automatic dzikr is that habit has made it so good that you know that in any state you will be protected or facilitated in some way or another.

Re: Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

Zikr/Remembrance of Allah is mentioned in Quran in many places. This verse applies to the kind you do:
Surat All-a [SUP]c[/SUP]Imran, , 191, "Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides..." [3:191]

Re: Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

zikr that stays just on tongue means nothing. the zikr that is uttered by the tongue and which enters the heart is the real zikr.

my dad once wrote:****

mirii is zabaaN ke vird ko meraa qalb bhii to maane**

[the uttering of the vird-e-zikr must be accepted by heart or else it's nothing!]

Re: Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

The dzikr that is internalised is true enough a good thing, but it is wrong to deem the dzikr without conscious thought as "nothing" is not true ... mindless dzikr is the best of mindless things to do ...

Re: Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

This was a good question CB..even i was thinking the same..

I am reading Quran paak a lot these days mashallah and find myself sometimes lying down and saying arabic words (which i myself dont know where I got them from)..but because Im reading it so much..my brain just keeps bringing them out :)

:jazak:

Benefit of Zikar is to get closeness of Almighty Allah SWT.

Book ‘The Book Pertaining to the Remembrance of Allah, Supplication, Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness (Kitab Al-Dhikr)’ of Sahih Muslim Hadith No. 6471.

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, thus stated: I am near to the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in assembly, better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him.

Jazak Allah for sharing this beautiful Hadith LL

Re: Doing Zikr Absentmindedly ..

Any Dhikr is better than no Dhikr. Better to have your tongue remembering the names of Allah as opposed to backbiting or something else!
