doing wedding stages as a profession!

Hi

just wondering, if anyone can give me handy tips how to start a business in wedding stages…

what is it that brides look for when they to sort out there wedding stages, y dont asian brides go for heavy centerpieces then just little tiny ones on all the tables?

would the asian community pay more attention to set up of the hall or they want to sav their costs on this area? coz i think english brides tend to pay more attention to that then the aisle, what do u all think?

how can i put together the stage? i mean what is it made off? wood, plastic, iron?

any tips would be wonerful

thanks

Re: doing wedding stages as a profession!

I think things are changing. The last two wedding I have been to in the UK had reasonably large centerpieces on all the tables and these weren't even really fancy weddings.

But, it is an issue. English people usually have 100 people max at their weddings, usually much less. In comparison, Asian weddings are 300+ people. So the English couples can have fancy decorations on all the tables plus wedding favours and still probably spend less than the Asian couple who have small centerpieces on 30+ tables.
Even if a bride looks at all this stuff a lot of the time when it comes down to reality, for a lot of people the cost just doesn't justify the outcome.

^ thats exactly it- when you have 300 guests vs 100 and you expect to have the same budget, then you just don't have enough money to spend on centerpieces, aisle decor and stages. also desi brides get so much more in terms of jaheyz and bari that spending money on decor for one night isn't really seen as worth it- as in, it could be the cost of another jora or a jewellery set. its a different set of priorities. i believe this is changing, but slowly.

if you are interested in a career in the industry, then definitely take a course through your local college on how to run a small business first. once you know how to put together a contract, how to price your services, how to market your business and find clients, then you tackle the nitty gritty like supplies and designs. not to discourage you, but there's a lot of hardwork involved in being a wedding decorator- its not all pretty things and fun flowers. i know several planners and they all work extremely hard- whether they do $100,000+ weddings or $25,000 weddings. summers are their busiest times- you miss a lot of personal events because you are usually occupied on the weekends with your clients. there is a lot of responsibility and accountability- after all, you are in charge of making someone's day beautiful and you cannot take a day off if you have a wedding booked- no matter what. you also have to be super diplomatic and sensitive when dealing with brides, grooms and family members- weddings make everyone a little bit crazy and some people a lot crazy- so you have to have excellent people skills.

you will also need to put together some cash to finance your start up costs like designing a website and business cards, purchasing supplies for your decor and stage- whether you get those from Pakistan or from where you are. also look into local business licensing laws, how to register your business name with the government and of course, taxes.
you should talk to Silsila in the new year- she is in the UK and in the business and can probably help you more.

Re: doing wedding stages as a profession!

Hi, the last few weddings that i've been to (and they were close friend/family weddings so we had to book/organise a lot ourselves), the brides liked the idea of matching the table decor and centre pieces to the stage decor. The last one i went to, the stage was matched to the bride's dress (which was a tea pink and light blue) and we made matching centrepieces for the table using pink roses the colour of her dress, and blue ribbons, which we made into rose 'balls', and we got a lot of compliments on them. I would say focus on the 'high' tables or where the bride and groom's family sits, and also it may be easier to get the caterers involved, like matching napkins etc. Its also easier if you practice on the smaller functions like mehndis.
