It is our duty as parents, elder sisters, grandparents and even just as elders to involve our kids in the tradition of Ramadan. Ramadan is more than just about fasting and we have somewhere stopped communicationg it with our children
The follwoing link is an initiative to do just that. HSBC Amanah (Islamic Banking) has for ramadan introduced ‘Box of Hope’ package which consists of a flat pack box with an instruction leaflet. Children are encouraged to fill the box with things they value, but no longer need and can therefore be donated to a less fortunate child. All sorts of items can go into the ‘Box of Hope’ – toys, books, colouring pencils, drawing pads, shoes, clothing - nothing is too small for HSBC Amanah to use. Once filled the Box of Hope is returned to a distribution centre and HSBC will ship the boxes to a number of orphanages around the globe.
The ‘Box of Hope’ campaign is more than a simple donation activity. It provides a gracious opportunity for people to celebrate with family and friends the charitable ethics Islam endorses, particularly during Ramadan. Picking up a ‘Box of Hope’ pack from their local HSBC branch or an affiliated local charity organization, parents especially have a wonderful opportunity to ‘practise what they preach’ and actually live the ideals of giving and charity with their children at home.
