Doing business with close relatives

asak

what would your take be in a situation where you’re doing business with a close relative, like lets say a first cousin with whom you’re close.

Let’s say you are looking for a house for rent. Your cousin has an agency where they help people find houses for rent. Would you insist on paying commission to your cousin if they hooked you up with a good house? If it had been a random deal your cousin would have earned $500 off the deal. In your case though they insist they are not going to take that commission from you.

But, after all, they did spend the same amount of time and effort (possibly even more b/c they wanted you to get the best house possible) and one should be fair in these things so one should pay the commission and they should also accept it. i know one can make it up in other ways but what if there seems to be no plausible way to make it up in the near future.

I know there’s alot of other factors involved. But just for random discussion sake, do share your views, random thoughts etc on the issue.

i wish my cousins would help me out like that :hehe:

Taking this rental deal particularly I would like to pay for the expenses (actuals). I know that they have lots of margin in the rental deals.

hmm
actual expenses u mean like maybe petrol costs etc
hmmm
i c
what abt the commission?

on the one hand:

they'll feel bad accepting a commission and making profit off a relative

but they've also spent the same amount of time and energy on it as a normal deal and if u had gotten it done from someone else u would have had to pay

The only people who I would do business with are: My parents and siblings. If a close relative does help me but refuses to take the commission, I would insist that he/she takes it as he/she has spent the same time and efford as they would on anybody else. However, if they insist that it's ok, then I would say thanks and go on with my life.

Now, a lot of desi people have the tendency to say at one point of their life time "I helped him but he didn't even offer me comission" and at that time, I would be proud to say "shut the hell up, I did offer you the commission but you refused". Sometimes they would want something much bigger in return and if you are unable to offer that, then they would say again, "I helped you but you don't wanna help me? or charge me for it?". To avoid that time, I am very kora (urdu word) in money matters. I'll pay you for your services and you pay me for mine. Relatives apni jagah, business apni jagah. I may offer him a discount, but that's another thing.

Goli maro Comission ko... Ye Reletives hotay kiss liye haiN... Agar kissi din kaam agaye tou kia bura hua humm :D

Offer Kardena Chahaye bas... IF Accepted tou good..... If Refused tou bas thats Even Better :D
