The reason I’m posting it here because not many people are visiting religion forums now days ( well, that’s an another issue.. will discuss later) but I have a question for you people… how do you guys do your wudu infront of people in public washrooms? Especially washing your feet.. some people are embarrassed the fact that other will think of you as an ajoba or call security on you for acting differently or making a mess.. how do you guys perform wudu in such places?
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
You can buy special leather socks if you are traveling and do wudhu from home. If the wudhu breaks, you don't need to rinse you feet if you had the socks on.
Or, take water in a cup and go to the private toilet and rinse over it :D

Brother, I try to find a "single" bathroom even if it's for disabled, and try to be quick so that someone deserving does not have wait.
Other times, I stay paak so that a second wudu is not required. Failing all of that, I do the wudu in public places, and if someone is there I tell them "pardon me, I'm just cleaning before my prayers." That has never failed me. There have been times where the guy stayed at the bathroom watching me do the wudu and I took the opportunity to do a little dawah by explaining why I am doing this and the purposes for ablutions. Never had anyone give me a strange look forget calling security :)
All the best!
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
^^ Awesome!
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
Niksik.. Leather socks? I really don't wanna wear them seriously, they are not comfy at all.. my Arab friend had told me once that it can be any socks.. doesn't have to be just leather and even gave me a solid answer with sheikh's references and hadiths proofs or what not..
Not sure about your 2nd idea.. done that too but some how end up making more mess and last time I even burst out laffing at my self for looking so stupid lol..
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
Go to a handicapped stall that has its own sink. You guys have those in the men's bathroom right?

I know what you mean bro.. I can do that too, but sometimes you are stuck in highly clean places surrounded by business people who really don't care listening to Dawas.. especially when they are in hurry.. but I'm so glad you do that, keep it up!!
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
Dude, just clean your feet, and if anyone asks you why or gives you a weird look, say you love to keep yourself clean and that you have a mental illness. That should be believable.
Oi, where do you think I work? at the Fish bazar ![]()
I have done this at conferences where everyone is suited down and I have my Armani threads on. Even if you don’t do the dawa bit, pre-empt them by stating what you’re doing, it’s a lot less weird. Try it once and you’ll see.
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
looks at Mc12IT
Do you have Armani threads? You can't let him beat you down, bro.
For men, its easy, its just a matter of being confident.
For women, its different. I can't do wudu in a public toilet even if I'm all alone coz I have to take my hijab off and pull my sleeves up and anyone could walk in... I know only women would be around me but still... I wouldn't like that....
My problem is that I have long hours in college, i'm in college from 8 am to 6 pm nearly everyday which means I have to say 4 out of 5 prayers in college.
So I arranged an appointment with the Chaplain of the college and asked him whether a room could be arranged for muslim students in college where they could go n pray (there's only about 10 or so muslim students in my college, and not all of them are paki).... he talked to the buildings manager and he refused to give us a separate room saying that if we give u a room, tomorrow another group of students belonging to a different religion will demand one. And I agreed, he was right.
There's a mini church in college. The buildings manager said we could use the same room! I felt awkward at first but then I thought, something is better than nothing, Allah swt knows all intentions, our prayers will Inshallah be accepted if said in that room/mini church too. The good thing was that the direction of the kaaba was in the opposite direction to where the statues of Jesus/cross etc were placed.
The next problem was where to do wudu... they didn't think it would be a good idea to use bathrooms in college coz they're always so busy... so then he ordered a small sink especially for us, got it installed in one corner in the room, placed towels there for us n everything :)
This was a favour I'll always remember.... there he was a Catholic Priest organising praying facilities for muslim students! May Allah reward him for that.
So yeah, u just gotta talk to people and if they've got some sense, they'l try their best to help u.
Terrific story, Sis. When there is a will, there is a way. Many times, people from other religions will come to assist when things look bleak. I am glad to hear that things worked out and remember that you did a great thing by helping all current and future Muslim students by creating this space.
It’s really about creating greater awareness on the campus/office. I am not saying that we should have extra rights/protections, just let us do our Wudus and Salaats in peace.
I travel a lot but Ma’shallah usually see a few Muslims praying at airport terminals and chapels all around the world. All I need to do is go and up and say my salaams and ask them if they are praying the right prayer (“doing maghrib prayers, brothers?”) and that’s it.
:k:
Even in public bathrooms I've never had trouble making a normal wudhu. So I make it like I normally would. After I would just wipe the place using paper towels as long as they're available.

I LIKE THAT

How much mess do you make? Its only washing your feet. Do not full open the tap, just use lil water and use your wet hand over your feet more. If you are spilling water all over on the sink and floor, even i will object on that.
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
^ Here It's consider gross washing your feet in the sink if you are in a public place regardless of any mess or not.
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
I wait for work bathroom to be empty and quickly do my feet first and then carry on with the rest of the wuzoo. It kind of works for me although I know that its not sunna way of doing it.
Mc1, socks have to be of material that you can walk in a mile without any damage to them and they dont transfer the moisture to your skin if gets wet from outside. Regular socks dont fulfill this requirement.
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
TLK, many of clergy now allow masah on regular socks and thats what i do.
Re: Doing Ablution.. A Question!
^ is that on any socks?
I wet paper towel or bathroom tissue and I would clean my foot with them. Later on during my study of Islam I found out that you are supposed to do a masa of foot anyway.
Refer to sura maida verse 6.
