I didnt know where to put this so Mods if you want to move it to any other forum ..plz do so
Anyway I have a Question to anybody who owns dogs or knows about them
Our dog which is an English Cocker spanial has started getting pretty aggressive towards outsiders.I know this is like inborn but it doesnt usually go with the breed’s demeanor. He is actually an outside dog meaning he stays in the backyard mostly. Our neighbors have like 3 dogs and they r barking all the time …Our dog got like a set of deep scratchs under his nose and we found out that was from the dogs nextdoor as there is a small hole underneath the fence and he stuck his nose and got beaten up.:(..I have fixed it)Anyway should I get him tested for rabies, and also he s mimicing the aggressiveness from those dogs..he almost bit me(i.e my own dog) yesterday when I was trying to fix the fence and the dogs started a Barking match..So how do I make my own dog less aggressive..again its not in his nature too to be this aggressive..

get him a pretty female dog.
We had Cocker spanial twice. I think ther are not aggressive dogs at all.
One question ,Did you ever had a dog before?
There could one of 2 reasons either he is not well taken care of. Or you neighborers dog are making extra release of testerone in your dog.
Did you try touching your dog while he eats?? be care full when you do that.. but do it.. try to play with him while he is eating.
Try pulling him away from the food. See what he does.
Re: ---Dog Question?
Be VERY careful when you do the pulling food away from him while he eats.
I was watching a friend's dog and he almost bit my hand off when I tried to move his food bowl.
And, if I remember right, they can't do a rabies test unless they've put the animal to sleep. I could be wrong though. Has he had rabies shots???? I doubt its rabies especially if the poor doggy got beat up by other dogs. How old is he? You said he's an outside dog, did he get socialized as a puppy?
Sorry for all the questions. This sounds more like a behavior problem than a rabies problem though. . . but that's just my opinion. Just be very careful if you decide to move his food bowl.

R ya keepin Him in dark?
Re: ---Dog Question?
Cocker Spaniels are known to turn...its not a given but it can happen. Especially with the neighbors dogs getting him all riled. The more those dogs provoke him, the more aggressive he'll get. So try to address that situation in some way if you can. There are "bark collars" you can get, when a dog barks, it delivers a small shock and teaches them not to bark. The ideal situation would be for your dog AND the neighbor's dogs to have one on.
Just some extra advice -
If your dog bites you, never pull your hand out of his mouth. Rather, push your hand very roughly as far into his mouth as you can. This will make the dog release your hand and at the same time teach him that biting results in pain to himself. And will prevent damage to YOU! I was friends with a lady who raised and bred show dogs which are known to be temperamental and it always worked for her.
As far as rabies, dogs CAN be tested for it but if your and your neighbor's dogs have had their innoculations, it isnt likely that they have it. Bring him to a vet if its worrying you....

I think I need to have a talk to the neighbors they have this mix breed german shepard lookin dog which is the most aggressive of all..
But other then that our dog has been very friendly to the point my younger daughter bosses him around pulls him etc he ha always been really kidfriendly but yesterday I did pull my hand away when he tried to bite and that was when the dogs were barking a lot. He is vaccinated against rabies..hope they r too. and for the biting..u know what u have suggested y brother used to do that to him...but I dont think I can when he is riled up...
I do have a choke collar fr him for the walks as he used to literally pull me really hard while walking but yesterday he was so agressive towards the halloween crowd..I had to leave him home

as far as another dog goes..I dont think my husband would like us to get another...so that is out
and Im going to try pulling the food out..he usually doesnt even eat if Im not there...I guess is some sort of emotional need in him that sometimes I have to make him eat from my hands...he can act spoilt at times:)
