Dog pack savages N Zealand jogger

**A New Zealand woman jogger has suffered serious injuries in an attack by a pack of pig hunting dogs.**The attack happened in Arapuni, a rural North Island town.

Police said the dogs bit the woman, named in local reports as Margit Christensen, 36, all over her scalp, arms and legs.

She was flown to hospital in Waikato, where doctors said she underwent nine hours of surgery. Eight dogs were seized from their owner and destroyed.

A local police officer, Sgt Jason Shailer, said there “were serious injuries pretty much all over her body”.

Dr John Bonning of Waikato Hospital told local radio that Ms Christensen was in a stable condition after surgery, but faced more plastic surgery at a later date.

She told him she had curled into a foetal position to protect herself during the 15-minute attack, he said.

Sgt Shailer said the dogs’ owner had agreed to have them destroyed. A decision on whether to charge the owner would be made on Tuesday.

A similar attack occurred a year ago in the North Island.

Four pig hunting dogs attacked a 13-year-old boy, pulling him off his bicycle and biting him more than 100 times.
