I believe it has more to do with un-hygienic nature of the dogs back in the days. Dogs has potential of spreading lots of diseases. The only reason that dogs are safe now is because of medical science (vaccinations etc) but before that it wasn’t the case. Thats the only possible reason i could think of of dogs being non-permissible.

Yeah I mean just look at any developing nation in the 21st century including Pakistan to see how badly most stray dogs are treated and how dirty they are. So imagine back in the day how dirty the dogs must have been so yes the Hadith absolutely made sense back in the day. Dogs are now treated better than humans in Westernized nations and are well groomed, vacinated and very clean. They’re one of the smartest most loyal creatures, humans could learn a lot from them. Remember Hadiths are day to day guidelines on how to be best Muslim in the context of the Quran, developed by a human being in the 500s AD. I know some take Hadiths as rule of law but it is not word of G-d, that’s the Quran.
