you can provide same things to a pig, would that means that it should be allowed in Islam ?
I believe it has more to do with un-hygienic nature of the dogs back in the days. Dogs has potential of spreading lots of diseases. The only reason that dogs are safe now is because of medical science (vaccinations etc) but before that it wasn’t the case. Thats the only possible reason i could think of of dogs being non-permissible.
