my sis-in-law
she's very very fair skinned and her features are beautiful, a cross between preity zinta with the dimples and kareena kapoor from 'refugee' but with black eyes........
but her parents were always very strict with her and never spoiled her b/c she was beautiful so maybe that's why she's so sweet and down to earth/not arrogant one bit. I guess she wasn't treated so differently
^aww I am sure she is beautiful m'A, but ur suggesting beauty should make one arrogant? and fair skinned people and the likes of preity and kareeenas are the ideal?
Gotta love the desis in this regard :D
I'm EXTREMELY light skinned cos of my grandfather and every1 here is like totally in awe. Personally, I don't really care, but if other people are so impressed, I'll just go along with them :D
well i've seen plenty of exceptions but most of the time, the very very fair skinned girls that are beautiful too in our desi culture are pampered by society.
and let's admit it that in our culture the very dark girls aren't what most desis consider gorgeous. i'm lighter skinned, my cousin is darker but i could tell how the elders used to put her down with certain comments.
the marriage ads always read : wanted, a fair bride :p
i personally wish our society wasn't so narrowminded but i don't think this view will change anytime soon.
i love that about western culture nowadays, there have been some beautiful dark models that have won america's next top model and i think that's wonderful wish desis would see it that way.
haha IceSoul, i know man! but would yuo want it to be like this for your kids?
This is what it will be like weather I want it or not. Pakistani society will continue to be fascinated by white skin for the foreseeable future. OFC I'd like my kids to be fair skinned. Seriously, as wrong as it is, in our society, it is something that can't be ignored. Esp for girls.
@Global Gal, I had a crush on a rather dark skinned girl in college :P
have an affect on how you feel yourself or present yourself?
or do you think desis view you differently because of what your skin color is?
Have you tried lightening products? Do you approve of them?
(I am not talking about race here, but the desi obsession with chita gora rang)
Oh yes, desi people are obsessed. I remember being told not to drink too much tea because it would turn my skin dark.
Now, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that jazz, so if a person is only attracted to light skinned people or only to dark skinned people, then who are we to judge?
That said, desi girls need to focus on getting some self-realization and see through all this hogwash for what it is; unnecessary pressure. Skin is such an integral part of you, you need to learn how to live in it rather than worrying about how to change it.
Okay, that's my lecture over for tonight.

What a load of crap. Both my father and I drink a lot of tea, about 3 cups/day and I can confidently say we are fairer than 99.9 % of the Pakistani population.
Anyway, what really matters is how healthy your skin is. A healthy skin will look good, no matter if its dark or light. On the other hand, I've seen lots of fair skinned people who look like they are permanently affected by jaundice LOL
BTW, I read somewhere that boiling an apple and then applying the pulp to your face makes the skin more glowing. Anyone ever tried that?
Load of crap, indeed. I, of course, started to drink tea every day after that. But it is pointless telling all the auntiejis that if tea darkened the skin, then all the Brits would look decidedly native too.
actually i am quite dark!
and i dont care much about the skin color, its GOD gifted!!!
one of my neighbours talks about gora/kala all day long !
its so annoying..because sometimes or should i say most of the times it hurts my feelings!
even though i get over it!
but its really rude!
we would be watching a movie and her daughter and her were commening on deepika (the girl fromom shanti om ) and they were like :"yeh kitni kali hai is ko kyun heroine banaya"...

Hmmm... Once I called a girl "*coal face" *in college and she was like really sensitive about this and started crying right then and there!
