Question:
I have developed a routine of reading Tasbeeh of Ayat-e-Kareema 100 times after each prayer. I also read whenever I had free time, so at times I end up doing a Tasbeeh of about a 1000 times of Ayat-e-Kareema. When someone asked me what I was reading I told them and they advised me against reading Ayat-e-Kareema so many times. They in fact told me I needed to get permission from some religious elder (bazorgh) to actually read it at all. They gave me the reason that Ayat-e-Kareema was “heavy”.
I was not doing a Wazifa or anything. Actually I am not someone who really relies much on Wazifas or even knows much about them. My sole purpose in all this was to do Zikr-e-Ilahi. And I have to be honest I was offended by the fact that someone would tell me that I don’t have the right to say the name of Allah unless I have permission. At the same time I may be wrong so I was hoping maybe you can tell me if what those people said holds any ground? Should I stop saying the Tasbeeh?
I am fairly confused and also concerned about the facts in this situation. So please reply soon. Thank you for your time.
You need ijazah from Allah and Allah has already given ijazah for tasbeeh in Quran.
And the whole universe is already doing tasbeeh.
THE WHOLE UNIVERSE IS BUSY IN DHIKRALLAHOne form of dhikrallah is tasbih or glorification of Allah. The Qur`an says that everything in the universe is busy in the tasbih of Allah:
The seven heavens and the earth and all that is in them glorify him and there is not a thing but declares his praise. But you do not understand their glorification. He is truly ever forbearing, oft forgiving. (17:44)
And here is the permission and encouragement from Quran:
But believers are expected to spend some more time in conscious remembrance of Allah than performing the five obligatory prayers. The Holy Qur`an says:
“O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance; and glorify him morning and evening.” (33:41-42)
Let's pray 7 times a day - fast every other day and give extra sadaqah ... !!!
Nope .... You will tell me I've gone crazy, trying to change the religion or something ... but logic dictates doing more is better ... what is better than doing more is keeping balance.
We can't say the same with sinning though ... but we will sin - and hence we repent ... It appears that some people do lots of zikr but they move up to that level gradually ...
I think it is like going to the gym ... we see the biggest shiniest weights and think I'm gonna lift those and then we get torn muscles - we need to progress to those stages - I think there are spiritual dangers associated with zikr that we can't immediately appreciate. Allahu'alaim
