This thought came to my head the other day, after watching Abdul Razzaq (for a second consecutive match) bowl rather well.
I know he’s always shown that he’s capable of bowling, but as of late he has improved tremendously.
Would you guys think that his bowling has been affected by Waqar Younis’s coaching?
Infact, our bowling has improved quite a bit since Waqar became our bowling coach… but we were already showing positive signs of progression before he joined the coaching squad. So, is it really Waqar’s coaching, or was it just inevitable for the team to become better bowlers?
Also, what are your thoughts on Abdul Razzaq’s bowling performance? I know the commentators were punking him during the ODI by saying that England should take advantage of the fact that Razzaq is in the spell since he is the weakest medium-fast bowler Pakistan has… when in reality, he was a little more consistent than Rana Naved that time around…
Re: Does Razzaq's bowling have anything to do with Waqar?
I have no clue as it does not even realized to me that Waqar Younis is Pakistan's bowling coach as I did not see any public news regarding his coaching. But it seems like to me that Waqar Younis is working hard amongst our bowling.
Re: Does Razzaq's bowling have anything to do with Waqar?
Razzaqs a funny one...he has moments of brilliance with the ball and he can be pretty awful...he started off as a genuine all rounder but faded considerably...He has looked good recently but time will tell whether this is just a purple patch pr whether he has actually improved...i hope the latter...
As for Waqar i think hes done a really good job...Shoaibs looking disciplined...Asifs looking better and better every game...hes mastering that reverse swing which Waqar must be helping with...Gul has looked good aswell...The only disappointment has been Sami but hey thats his fault...
Re: Does Razzaq's bowling have anything to do with Waqar?
the way I see it... Razzaq is the only one who has played a long time with 2 W's and he knows the nitty gritty of seam bowling and surely with Waqaaa as a bowling coach and if Inzi use him more with authority he can be old Razzy with swing and seam
Re: Does Razzaq's bowling have anything to do with Waqar?
I think without any doubt Waqar presence did help control extras and make out bowlers more disciplined. As far as Razzaq is concerned, I think he always performed well if you used him as a strick bowler not as a stock bowler.
If we look at his speeds, he is bowling 82+ mph, which is better than most of the English strick bowlers (Gough, Lewis, Clark and even matching Broad), and also he got his lethal reverse swinging yorker (reminding Waqar at his peak). I think Inzi should use him more, it seems like Inzi bring a bowling plan on a sheet with him, and follow it without thinking too much of the match conditions.
Like today, these were the perfect conditions for seam bowlers, and I think he could have used Razzaq for 8 overs and reduced some overs of Afridi and Hafeez (10-0-51-1). I don't think razzaq takes too long in his overs, so he could serve the purpose well in such conditions.
