DOES pretty-philosophical

scares people? why? & how?

Re: DOES pretty-philosophical

Joke:
Because beauty does not come with brains, and if it did people would think it to be alien life.

Serious:
Because those who know nothing are dangerous, but those who know pretty much but not enough are critical to humanity.

:) brother psyah.
Jazakal kheire.

so does that mean, pretty-philosophical is a solipsism, a non existent truth? or is it only a matter of views per misperceptions and egoistic narsiccism of somebody?

It could be solipsism but it would premature to say without more information from the raiser of the statement.

I guess there is a hidden sense of self-worth in the claimant's opinion of someone else being 'pretty so and so' meaning they 'feel' the recipient is not 'as' philosophical as the one making the claim. i.e. in a position to evaluate and pass judgement.

But I was answering the question that provided it was a given that someone was 'pretty philosophical' why that would scare people. I didn't know that you wanted to analyse the expression itself.

Re: DOES pretty-philosophical

its pretty-philosophical, brother psyah. meaning the philosophy component is hard to the core. and thus, even when it is near perfect, it is precluded by common wisdom as the abstract does not win over the limits of everyday common place reality.

Peace Sister

Yes ... but then on answering your question ... why does it scare people it could be the fact that it appears confusing to them that fear of it sets in. I will need more explanation with examples to understand fully what you have asked and said.

Re: DOES pretty-philosophical

brother psyah, if someone calls you a fountain, what does that mean?

Re: DOES pretty-philosophical

Something very still and leaks a lot of water

or

someone with knowledge

or

ever youthful

or

it could mean they are being intentionally obscure

or

it could mean they are being mysterious and toyingly poetic

or

it could mean nothing that I could understand without more information

Re: DOES pretty-philosophical

brother psyah,

by fountain, what could it mean?

an endless well of whatever is considered attractive, could it be these alone each one separately: knowledge, character integrity, & finnesse or all of these together?

Re: DOES pretty-philosophical

MAYBE its an insult.. like it means ur a fountain like a useless waste of water

More than anything and inclusive of every thing that you and psyah mentioned, it means "root" a point of emergence and in that if you take "knowledge", it would mean that person is not only well versed in knowledge him/herself but a source of knowledge for any one willing to acquire it, a self less open invitation.

Totally! When we see such metaphors that are not only applicable in one or two dimensions but are correct in all of their dimensions including their combined ensemble, that is when we know we have stumbled across a discovery. just like PI was discovered for mathematics. It seems to me metaphoric terms have equivalence, also you will notice the word 'fountain' will be explained in all languages in the same way you have done.

I think another term is 'path' in that it is used as a metaphor for the process of life's course. Surah Fatihah uses this term and it makes complete sense even to the degree of signs that litter the path and choices when the paths split. For this reason I believe certain terms are more powerful when portrayed as metaphor rather than literally.
