Does Pak belong in the civilised community of nations?

why is there no repulsion in pak especially in our media against terrorist groups that target innocent pakistanis? similarly why is there so much internal opposition to army operation in the tribal area?

pakistanis dont realise that people abroad are genuinely repulsed by groups that deliberately target innocent civilians in order to impose a political agenda. all intelligence reports right now indicate that pak tribal areas are providing shelter to groups bent on causing mayhem abroad be it in afghanistan or in the west. and even if we dont agree with the intelligence assessment of international community, we have no option but to cooperate. pak has no choice but to put troops in tribal area if that is what the international community demands. other course is to adapt the path charted by saddam hussain. scary to think that so many educated pakistanis seem to favour the saddam option.

below is the list of major terrorist incidents in pak before lal masjid operation. pakistanis might believe that al-qaeeda had no hand in these but i dont and more importantly neither does the rest of the world. moreover, the fact that pakistani government does not want to crackdown on groups killing innocent pakistani citizens calls into question pakistan’s reliability as a responsible member of international community. a country not willing to tackle groups killimg innocent citizens internally cannot be relied to tackle groups that kill innocent people abroad. such a country deserves to have sanctions imposed on it.

That and polygamy as a sanctioned practice

Re: does pak belong in the civilised community of nations?

Conservative Right wingers in the US have complained about this very thing among Muslims in general… The common refrain is why is there no Fatwa against terrorist attacks?
So this isnt really problem thats confined to Pakistanis alone, but Muslims around the world…

I think its two reasons.

  1. The fact that at some level, many Muslims sympathize with the cause, if not the method.
  2. There is an overwhelming sense of helpessness against people who are willing to resort to terrorist tactics such as murder and suicide bombings.

But if we want to fight the menace of extemism, we will all have to realize that eventually we can no longer remain silent.

Re: does pak belong in the civilised community of nations?

Certainly not, we don't care about our own dead, of course no one else will when the US bombs FATA and adjoining areas. But then you will see immense outrage all of a sudden form mullahs and the public.

It's an interesting logic that the war on terror is wrong because we are facing setbacks, but there weren't half as many cries against Pakistan supporting WoT when the terrorists were somewhat contained. What is right is right, what is wrong is wrong, we can't give in to the terrorists no matter what.
