One-sided love is unique, beautiful but yet painful feeling. Loving someone so much despite knowing that he/she has no feelings for you is always difficult, painful and, in most cases, ends up ruining your life.
Have you ever been or know of anyone who has been in this situation (one-sided love)? Did it work out in the end or no?
There is a classical joke about 50 percent ka ishq.
A guy told one of his friend “mujhay apnay ishq main fifty percent kamyabi ho ga-e hay.”
Dost bola “mubarak ho , magar woh kaisay ?”
Toh pahla dost bola “main toh usay chata hoon magar woh mujhay nahi chahtee ?”
You can one-sidedly love not one person, but many persons, the whole world, the whole universe, rather many universes.
You feel pain and distress when you attach expectations and conditions to your love. It's not as easy as it sounds, takes extreme amount of patience and persistence (I guess).
In the process, you will realize that true happiness was not anywhere else, but inside you.
How can it "work" when it's one-sided? Unless you're asking if the person developed feelings for you later on. That's a different case. But if it's not mutual, it won't work.
And if you didn't get to know the person that well (as in spend a significant amount of time with them/talk to them), then it's not really love. It would be more like an infatuation or crush. There's more substance to the feeling if you actually know the objection of your affection.
Let's see now ......the fact that the other person is just not on the same wavelength can lead to a perfectly good friendship turning sour especially since one person has expectations of the other that , that one does not live up to.***

Feel free to share.
One-sided love will always be painful and difficult to endure...you'll only end up hurting yourself badly since the other person is oblivious of your feelings! And even if they are aware of your feelings for them and do not reciprocate...again...hurt. My point being it cannot work thus..there is no 'end' here. But if the other person ends up having feelings for you...then it won't be one-sided any more :)
